New tours for club’s european travel service

The Camping and Caravanning Club’s European Travel Service has launched two new Escorted Tours for 2020-2021, one including scenic rail journeys.

The new tours are a 20-day Escorted Tour of Normandy and Brittany plus a 23-day tour that spans the French and Spanish Pyrenees mountains before taking in the Auvergne region of central France.

The tours feature in the upcoming European Escorted Tours brochure, which is due to be released at the end of November.

The first tour, ‘Normandy and Brittany’, features trips to seaside villages, pretty fishing ports and medieval towns. The tour departs in May 2020 and includes eight excursions and seven meals.

The tour starts in Calais before taking in the wider Calvados region, an area renowned not just for the production of brandy but also several types of cider and soft cheeses. Tour members will explore the Haute-Normandie coastline and will have the chance to visit charming coastal towns such as Honfleur and the historic D-Day landing beaches. The final ten days are spent in Brittany, where tour members will explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mont St Michel alongside the scenic pink granite coast of northern Brittany.

The later stages of the tour take in the pretty fishing ports of southern Brittany, the medieval city of Vannes and a guided excursion to the megalithic stones around Carnac.

The second tour, ‘Rail Away Pyrenees and Auvergne’, lasts 23 days and departs in June 2020. The tour is perfect for railway enthusiasts and includes trips on the ‘Train Rouge’ along the Cathar trail and the impressive Livradois-Forez natural park on one of France’s most beautiful train routes. The tour starts in historic Saint-Émilion, a famous wine region where tour members can enjoy an optional wine tour in the local area. From here, members will venture south through the French and Spanish Pyrenees, with trips to Lac d’Artouste on the highest train route through the Pyrenees, and to Vall de Núria before reaching  the scenic Mediterranean coastline near the pretty and colourful artists’ town of Collioure.

Donna Bloy, Product Development and Operations Manager at the Club, said: “Scenic train trips are often mentioned to us as some of the experiences our tour participants enjoy during their days at leisure, or ask us to include them in some of our existing itineraries. We’re also getting a lot of requests for more escorted tours in France so we hope this new itinerary will be welcomed and enjoyed by many people.”

Those booking a ferry crossing and an Escorted Tour with the Club receive a discount of up to ten per cent off the cost of the crossing and a further £25 off the tour price.

Those who don’t own their own unit can take advantage of the Club’s book and go motorhome hire offer. It’s also a great solution for anyone who wishes to tour Europe under their own steam.
