Hertford Camping and Caravanning Club Site

Hertford Camping and Caravanning Club Site was crowned Hertfordshire’s Best Small Accommodation Provider in the ‘Rest Your Head’ category at The Hertfordshire Tourism Awards 2018, held at Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel in Ware on 10 December.

The campsite is one of the Club’s largest with 245 pitches. It’s open year round, with a good mix of standard grass and hardstanding pitches available. The site also offers glamping in the form of safari-style tents from Ready Camp, the Club’s own glamping network. The county town of Hertford is within walking distance.

Paul Barnes, the joint Holiday Site Manager with Elizabeth Cobb, said: “We’re thrilled Hertford Club Site has been recognised in this way.

“The team here on site works tirelessly, from cleaning and gardening, to grass cutting and fence building, ensuring the best possible stay for our campers, whether they’re enjoying a short mid-week stay, family holiday or a weekend break.”

The campsite was opened in 1953 as a memorial to Lord Baden Powell, founder of the UK Scout Movement and Camping and Caravanning Club President from 1919 to 1941. Following extensive restoration and development works, the site was reopened in July 1996 by the third Lord Baden Powell, who was also serving as Club President, in recognition of his grandfather’s work.
