Leisure World turns service prices upside down!

The Leisure World family of dealerships has just turned its service prices upside down – the company’s £99 offer that’s proved so successful throughout this year is now just £66!

For a short period only, you can book your tourer or motorhome in for a service at this very special price any of the three Leisure World branches in the north east of England – Catterick Caravans at Richmond, Ebor near York, or Tyneside at Birtley.

All Leisure World’s Service and Repair Centres have Approved Workshop status, under the scheme operated by trade body the National Caravan Council and backed by both the Caravan Club and the Camping and Caravanning Club. That means the highest standards are always guaranteed, but usually at a set price.

For all services booked under this offer and carried out before December 23rd, the service prices are:

-£66 single-axle caravan

-£96 twin-axle caravan

-£66 motorhome habitation

Leisure World’s Managing Director, Chris Kinsell, says: “We are saving our customers a considerable amount of money at a key time of the year.

“But, the one thing we never reduce is the quality of our customer care, all based on the family spirit that is the lifeblood of our business.

“Outstanding service and a fair price is our company motto. And with this latest offer that’s literally exactly what we’re providing!”

Services can only be booked on a first-come, first served basis. You can book your service for any time up to December 23rd of this year, depending on availability.

For more information, or to book in for a service, call the following numbers:

*01748 818391 for Catterick Caravans Leisure World

*0191 410 5221 for Tyneside Leisure World

Wow! what fantastic prices.

So the question is, what do you get for your £66? Is it the same as what other dealers charge £199 for?

Be interested in feedback by anyone that takes up this offer.

It's probably a bit like a KwikFit MOT.............every car they test needs a new pair of brake discs, at least 2 new shockers and at least 1 tyre has a split on the inner wall!

Our offer is a full service as per the NCC servicing schedule.

We are offering proper servicing at a reasonable price. Our service offer includes ...
- running gear - wheels, tyres and brakes
- gas system pressure check
- all appliances for correct operation
- all road lights and internal electrics 12v and 230v
- written water ingress report with our findings/conclusions

Any rectification or required parts will be chargeable on top of the service price.

That's a bit harsh don't you think? At the end of the day there is not masses of work to be done when servicing most caravans.  I think it good that some are starting to challenge the over priced caravan industry. Car servicing doesn't cost as much as most twin axles service charges and yet there is more work involved and more parts.
We tell our dealer to only service the running gear, repair any warranty issues and to do a damp check.  Cost for a twin axle about £100 and warranty is still intact.  We should we pay a dealer to check the gas, electric and water systems as we know they are working?  Why should we pay a dealer to check that all the cupboard doors etc open and close okay?
IMHO 90% of the work they do on a caravan at a service is checks only because they do NOT service the gas appliances unless specifically asked to do so and then you pay extra!  A service on my vehicle costs £149 and that does more mileage than the caravan!  A full service top service on the vehicle is £249 and they changed a lot of goodies including transmission and axle fluids.
Servicing of gas appliances, as opposed to safety checks, is NEVER included in normal caravan servicing - but the safety checks are the important element whether done professionally or DIY.

What really bugs me is when caravan servicing prices actually exclude items normally changed, like one-shot hub nuts - you wouldn't take your car for a fixed-price service and find the oil filter is an extra!

Sounds like great value to me. Different to Kwik Fit as if they tell you something is needed to pass MOT your kind of stuck with them doing it (there and then or have the hassle of taking it elsewhere potentially now with no MOT).

However, with a caravan - if they find things to be done and you don't like their prices you can choose not to have them done or take it else where / do yourself.

What has always really bugged me is that a van that has only been towed (say) 1,000 miles in a single year and only (say) 3,000 miles in total has to have the blessed brake drum removed each and every service.
You never do this on the rear brake drums of a car, yes you check the condition of the shoes but you don't take the blessed assembly apart.

I have also always been bugged by the amount so many caravan dealers charge for a service when so many of them only employ wrench monkies and not properly trained and indentured mechanics and I am totally with Ian (surfer) when he goes on about doing the hinges etc. yourslef and only getting the agent to do the absolute minimum of work to maintain the small print of the warranty.  Do the other work yourself and do it far better!
