Michelin Green Guides essential travel advice

The first Michelin Green Guide made its iconic debut back in 1926 and now - 85 years later - travellers still turn to them for a successful trip.

With nearly 60 titles to choose from, there is a title to suit every traveller, from the glories of the British countryside and the vineyards of France, right through to more exotic locations like Colombia and Taiwan.

Each easy-to-read and attractive guide is packed full of useful photos, maps, and family activities, making it the perfect holiday planner.

Drawing on 100 years of expert knowledge, the Green Guide allows travellers to culturally explore their chosen destination. With beautiful old churches, museums, places to eat and great historic sites listed in the guide, inquisitive travellers can get a more diverse and rewarding trip.

The guides use the famous grading system where a star is used to rate a place according to their importance or interest - one star means “interesting”, two stars shows that a location is “worth a detour”, while three stars means it is “worth making a special trip”.

Ian Murray, Michelin Maps & Guides said: “The modern traveller’s needs have evolved. Instead of package holidays, travellers want to be more adventurous and see and experience more. The Green Guide arms travellers with more cultural, historical information so that they can get a genuine and authentic insight into their chosen spot.

“Today’s travellers want to make sure they get the best cultural experience and with picturesque walking tours and historic locations all included in the Green Guide, travellers are fully clued up about the place they are visiting and what they can do and see.”

With the first Michelin guide introduced over 100 years ago providing travellers and motorists with helpful advice and knowledge on topics such as tyre changes and vehicle maintenance, Michelin have always been around to help travellers.

Haven't used the Michelin guides for a long time now, These days we aways seem to know where we want to go and see. They were a great source of information for us many years ago. However the copies that were published then in English were very different to those published in France. IE, The guide for the Dordogne was simply that and incorporated the Lot region within it's pages, Then French publication had a separate issue for the Dordogne and another for the Lot. Which supplied the reader with far more info once one had mastered reading French. Don't know what the set up is today but nevertheless a great read and guide to have in the glove box. :daisy:
