Shield improves caravan insurance

to offer greater protection and peace of mind.Following research into the purchasing habits of today’s caravanners, Shield has made changes to its caravan insurance products to allow customers of both new and older units to benefit from even greater levels of protection and peace of mind.
The changes are further evidence of the high quality cover offered to caravanners by Shield and why the leading insurance provider is worthy of a ‘5 Star Rating’ from independent financial experts, Defaqto.
Shield has launched a new level of cover called ‘Guaranteed Value’ which, in the event of total loss, repays the full purchase price of any caravan bought within the last seven years regardless of whether it was purchased new or used.
To qualify for ‘Guaranteed Value’ cover, customers simply need to have a purchase receipt from a recognised UK dealer that shows the amount paid for the caravan and the date it was purchased. This will need to be presented should any claim be made.
The age of a caravan eligible for cover under Shield’s existing ‘New for Old’ product has been doubled from five years to ten. This means that any caravan up to ten years old meeting an early demise can be replaced with a brand new identical version, or a like-for-like alternative if their unit has ceased production. This is different to conventional insurance policies that only return the depreciated value, or market value, of the caravan.
Those considering ‘New for Old’ cover must remember to keep the value of their caravan, or it’s like-for-like alternative, up to date with today’s prices on their policy.
Shield Sales and Marketing Manager, Stuart Craig, says; “Buying habits have changed as a result of the economic climate so we must evolve our offering to ensure we’re providing a high standard of insurance cover that is relevant as well as being competitively priced.
“We’ve seen an increase in the number of new and existing customers looking to insure older units, either because they’ve bought second hand or are changing their caravan less frequently. Customer feedback also identified a desire for policies that allow the full replacement of a caravan with minimal fuss or compromise. Both of these policies offer this peace of mind,” said Stuart.
