AA anounces campsite of the year for Britain and Ireland



caravanning and camping articles The AA today has announced the winners of the Campsite of the Year Awards for Britain and Ireland to coincide with the launch of the AA Caravan and Camping Britain and Ireland Guide 2012.

The award winning sites have all shown exceptional quality and attention to detail, making their parks stand out above the rest. The AA Campsite of the Year Award winners for 2012 are:

In addition to the national awards the AA recognises five regional winners.

The Regional AA Campsite of the Year Award winners for 2012 are:

South West England – South Lytchett Manor Caravan & Camping Park, Lytchett Minster, Dorset
South East England –Tanner Farm Touring Caravan & Camping Park, Marden, Kent
Heart of England – Two Mills Touring Park, North Walsham, Norfolk
North West England – Riverside Caravan Park, High Bentham, North Yorkshire
North East England – St Helen’s Caravan Park, Wykeham, North Yorkshire

Details of all the award-winning sites can be found in the new AA Caravan and Camping Britain and Ireland Guide 2012. The guide features over 900 annually inspected and rated sites giving details of location, AA Pennant rating**, contact details, prices, opening times and a description as well as local information.

David Hancock, editor of the guide, commented, "I wish to congratulate all our winners who have been awarded in recognition of exceptional quality and attention to detail across their parks and who are included in a feature in the AA Caravan & Camping Britain and Ireland Guide 2012. The guide also lists local attractions under each location, nearby pubs and restaurants under each site entry. 'Best For' lists to help campers find stunning views or the best parks to go Glamping, the name for posh camping, as well as colourful, fully updated introductions to key destination counties, and a section containing 20 new walks and cycle rides.”

The guide also carries a selection of interesting and informative features on subjects ranging from ‘A weekend in a classic VW Camper Van’, ‘A look at camping technology’ and ‘A day in the life of a campsite inspector’.

The AA also offers the AA Camping Card Scheme for 2012. With the AA Camping Card, users will qualify for reduced rates at participating sites. Card holders will simply need to state that they are using an AA Camping Card when they phone to book a site and show the card on arrival. The types of discounts vary from site to site, details of which will be given when contacting the site. An AA Camping Card is included in every AA Caravan and Camping Britain and Ireland Guide 2012.

Ross Park, Newton Abbot, Devon
This worthy winner of the title of AA Campsite of the Year for 2012 has 32 acres of parkland devoted to caravanning and camping with at least two thirds as green open space creating a mini nature reserve for guests to explore and enjoy. The attention to detail is evident everywhere from the colourful flower displays, large, secluded, fully serviced hardstanding pitches surrounded by lush flowerbeds to the impressive dog shower and grooming cabin, spotless, high quality toilet facilities and adventure playground.

Skye Camping & Caravanning Club Site
The views from the pitches over Loch Greshornish are amazing and the surrounding countryside is truly impressive. There are camping pods with loch views, cars for hire and guided bus tours leave from the site so you don’t even need your own transport or accommodation to enjoy a stay on this site. The amenity block, built to exacting standards, provides high quality and immaculately maintained modern amenities for all campers and there is even a dog wash.

Islawrffordd Caravan Park
Situated on the coast between Barmouth and Harlech with clear views of Cardigan Bay and the Snowdonia and Cader Idris mountain ranges, this excellent family friendly park has been owned and run by the Evans family since 1957. The first class facilities include a leisure complex with indoor swimming pool, sauna, Jacuzzi and tanning suite, games room, shop with in-store bakery and superb toilet block with under-floor heating.
