For life Garmin updates...can't do!

15 posts in this topic

Three years ago I bought myself a Garmin sat-nav, and at same time paid for lifetime updates....

What I hadn't thought of/ known, was that these updates are tied into the operating systems of the PC....so when Microsoft stopped supporting XP,which is what I have on both PC's, then updates won't be uploaded by Garmin.....so will have to find another computer with a later Windows set-up to benefit from updates.

Unless someone out there has other solutions?

It tells me that my access is valid but cannot download to unsupported XP...so will be having a look at forum suggested by David...

Yes I have the communicator app....I have it on charge at present and waiting for the message again...it has already confirmed that my maps are out of date...

Garmin Express eventually opened and re-told me I should upgrade, then said it recognised the device but wouldn't stipulate what it had recognised!....anyway half an hour on their forum shows that they have had softwear problems for months and many devices wouldn't synchronize ........think if they get that sorted it might help me again, in meantime it suggested I updated to 8.1 !

Garmin Express works very well with Windows 7 - takes a while to download, would probably be quicker if we had ''fibre'' but living in a conservation area with many listed buildings English Heritage wont allow BT to install roadside cabinets sad2.gif

This thread reminded me my Garmin 2340 was due for lifetime upgrade. I connected to Garmin Express, downloaded the latest Western Europe maps, 2015.40 and installed them....about 20 minutes in total.(W7 Pro at 3Mbps))

......yes perhaps if either of our machines had Vista,7 or 8 it may give me some help......I only have 1Mbps so it usually takes 30 minutes for just UK & Ireland.

OK thanks - I'll try that and see if it's anywhere near the 1050cm I believe it to be based on the caravan size (assuming that THAT's correct lol).

Quite right, the beading length is not the one dictating the size.  The "A" dimension is from the ground back to the ground on the opposite side. As the awning's sides themselves don't quite  touch the ground, but stand about 5 cm above it, I would measure it along the van face edge as follows. From the lowest corner of the LH side panel right round along the beading to the lowest corner of the RH side panel,. Then to this add 10 cm for the "ground standoff" 5 cm each side to get the "A" size.   [Practically It could be easier to measure to a centre seam if that is a feature of the awning, and double that plus adding on that 10 cm.]
