Towing Electrics

Question

Posted

Hi can anyone advise me. my last car had two sockets fitted for towing caravan this one ,only has one the black one. I have seen the coupler on the Caravan accessoryshop.co.uk are these instead of having a white 7 Pin fitted to the car as well or am I mistaken there appears to be 2 one set appears to have male connections, whilst the other appears to have female connections with protection flaps. They are very poor quality pics on the site and I could not get them to print.

I want to know if I purchase a set would this do to keep fridge going while towing, instead of having another plug fitted on car?

We use an adapter/splitter from 13 pin, seems to work o.k. - we have not had a problem, as mentioned go to a specialist and they will sort you out.

Towbar and electrics on our volvo was just under £400 which included the splitter

If your current (black) socket only has 7 pins, it will only operate side and running lights, indicators and brake lights. There is no adaptor to operate your fridge of caravan battery charging circuit from this socket. If this is the case, you can take your car to a towbar speciallist and have the white socket fitted which will do what you are looking for.

If your current socket has 13 pins, (much more modern) there are adaptors available to connect to both the black and white plugs on your caravan.

Hope this helps............ebt

You can buy an adapter from most caravan shops. One end accepts the 13 pin caravan plug and the other end has two plugs which plug directly into the car sockets. Fridge and all lights should then work.

But this will ONLY be applicable if your car is fitted with a 13 pin black Europlug NOT the 7 pin black plug, commonly known as the 12n socket......ebt
