    • Username and other important upgrade information   09/23/2015

Please note that the forum is still upgrading will be for most of the night I think, therefore you may find it slow at times, looking different etc etc. This will straighten out (he hopes) as the upgrade continues. One of the big changes is that usernames and display names will change.   At the moment you can have a username and display name for example you can have a username of joeblogsy and a display name of Joe Blogs.   After the upgrade we will only have usernames.   For some this won't make any difference at all but there are a fair few of you that have different display names., many of which I have changed for people for various reasons.   If, after the upgrade you notice your forum name isn't right please just send me a PM with your desired username.   You may also find you have been logged out, if this happens and you cannot remember your original forum details, please email me at mark@touringandtenting or open a support ticket by

  1. AL-KO Kober Limited – the leading manufacturer of premium components for the automotive, commercial and leisure industries – has launched the AL-KO Ranger, a new manoeuvring system for single-axle touring caravans up to 1,800kg.
Designed as a lower-cost, entry-level alternative to the company’s premium Mammut mover, the AL-KO Ranger features manual engagement onto the wheels when required and can be quickly disengaged once the caravan is in position. The motor units, situated in front of the axle to prevent damage from road debris, provide effortless and accurate manoeuvring control in even the narrowest of spaces, as well as on steep terrains up to 18% and for getting over obstacles up to two centimetres in height. The unit’s soft start and soft stop technology also provides enhanced, controlled and precise bump-free manoeuvring.
Commenting for AL-KO Kober, a spokesman says: “The new AL-KO Ranger motor-mover is an attractively-priced alternative for those people who want the combination of the trusted AL-KO brand name with a cost-effective price point, coupled with the benefit of easier manoeuvring of their caravan. Thanks to its easy-to-operate remote control, the mover provides millimetre-precise accuracy and completely effortless manoeuvrability. With the ability to complete a 360-degree rotation of single-axle touring caravans on the spot, the AL-KO Ranger puts the caravan in the right place, whether at home or on site.”
The AL-KO Ranger’s mechanics – including its aluminium rollers and motor units – are protected within a plastic housing mounted via a clamp mechanism to the underside of the caravan’s chassis. The electronics can be installed inside one of the caravan’s storage spaces; and an LED display on the controller and push-button remote control alerts users to various working limits of the motor mover.
Like AL-KO Mammut, the new Ranger is provided with a five-year warranty according to AL-KO Warranty Terms.
The AL-KO Ranger mover can be retrofitted to most caravans, including non AL-KO chassis caravans, and can be purchased from most caravan dealers, mobile fitting companies and caravan accessory outlets.
Stocks of the motor-mover – which has a suggested retail price of £1,099.00 including installation – are available from caravan industry wholesaler, Leisure Plus, based in Hixon, Staffordshire.

  9. Lunar Caravans has released a new video celebrating the caravan’s place at ‘the heart of the holiday’.

The attention grabbing video was launched ahead of the start of the 2015 season and captures some of the special moments shared by a family enjoying a caravan holiday.

The video is shot in slow motion and with a minimalist emotive soundtrack. According to Lea Lawrence at Lunar, this was done to capture the interaction between each family member and the joyful emotions they share.

Says Lea, “A lot of people simply don’t understand why caravanners are so passionate about caravanning. We wanted to educate them by highlighting those golden moments that come when couples and families can spend quality time together away from the stresses and strains of everyday life.

“The simplicity and relaxed pace of a caravan holiday creates an environment for the creation of these precious moments – moments that become cherished memories as we grow older. This is one important part of what people love about caravanning and we wanted to celebrate it.

“For every couple or family the memories will be different but hopefully most caravanners will be able to relate to some aspect of the video. It’s already generated positive feedback – and a few tears – from our customers as well as people who are thinking about getting into caravanning for the first time. This is exactly what we hoped to achieve and we’re really delighted’.

The video was shot on location at Park Cliffe in Windermere in Cumbria.
