Please note that the forum is still upgrading will be for most of the night I think, therefore you may find it slow at times, looking different etc etc. This will straighten out (he hopes) as the upgrade continues. One of the big changes is that usernames and display names will change.   At the moment you can have a username and display name for example you can have a username of joeblogsy and a display name of Joe Blogs.   After the upgrade we will only have usernames.   For some this won't make any difference at all but there are a fair few of you that have different display names., many of which I have changed for people for various reasons.   If, after the upgrade you notice your forum name isn't right please just send me a PM with your desired username.   You may also find you have been logged out, if this happens and you cannot remember your original forum details, please email me at mark@touringandtenting or open a support ticket by

  2. Post on The Romantic Road in Germany

    By Gray, posted
OK folks SWMBO has decreed that we are going to travel the Romantic Road next year .
We are crossing to the Hook of Holland
Detouring to Amsterdam and Wuppertal (I got that concession ) and Frankfurt (she doesn't know how close the trains are there either)

But can anyone recommend any places that are a must to visit on the Road - the usual castles, zoos, museums, breweries/Wineries,
I mean I managed to get Wuppertal because of the Monorail system
So where else can we go there are two of us in our 8m motorhome and we have a friend in her 7m motorhome so will be driving together

  3. Post on Hard standing in Touring and Tenting

    By Fio, posted
What are peoples thoughts re hard standing. Has anyone seen it done really sympathetically ?

  4. Well in a couple of months we will be insuring Maxine the motorhome for a second year
So SWMBO (sometimes) did a search for insurance .............................. OH MY Gods
have had so many phone calls so filtering easily by reminding them not needed until April 1st some are OK some will ring back -infact just had a call as I write this post
BUT WHY??????? so much difference in price so far from those that have given us a quote it ranges from £250 - £800
All we ask is Euro cover for more than 90 days 2 drivers only both with long clean licences (two accidents 2013 [not at fault] 2016[?my fault] ) and breakdown cover with legal expenses and 7000 miles cat 1 alarm Cat 5 tracker kept on a locked access driveway next to the house

    What else worries them ???????

    anyone tell me
  5. Hi folks been a little quiet of late just been busy getting Maxine Motorhome all Spick and Span ready for our next trip
    So
fitted a Tracker system with engine stop capability fitted and tested works fantastic and not too expensive either - see Rewire Security
Then we tried to get the two gas cylinders we have in the gas locker - the handbook says 2x13kg  - there is absolutely no way they fit being too tall and too fat so Stephanie had to open her purse
So now I have fitted a Gas-It twin 11kg system with external filler  just waiting for a gas company to arrive (Wednesday ) so do the require gas check and then we can fill them up

So dry and canned food in boxes ready clothing all in soft bags (3 section boot tidies actually) under the bed
Fishing tackle all identified as wanted on journey and wooden tray made to hold the fishing rods safe in underfloor locker which is 6'6"" long
Maxines garage sorted and re-sorted re-packed weight moved around

So now it's just a case of waiting for our departure date ti arrive
Yes the countdown has started properly

  6. OK Ben on T&T for so long almost forgot when we joined but during all that time we have been tuggers
BUT now Stephanie has decided that we need to take a change of direction in that she wants a motorhome for the simple reason that my illnesses and ailments are not improving and it's me who sets up the caravan once on site and all the bending and jumping around is getting more and more difficult
So we are looking for a new to us motorhome - preferably  not to big but due to the need to carry a mobility scooter a tag axle is needed and preferably with
    an island or twin bed/s
    separate toilet and shower
    large fridge freezer
    solar panel
    satellite system
when it comes to power would prefer diesel and an auto box not bothered whether LHD or RHD
got to be big enough for 4 even though there will only be two of us most of the time as we like space

Anyone know of any models that fit these throw me the names so I can look for them soon

  7. The Camping and Caravanning Club has joined forces with Practical Caravan and Practical Motorhome magazines to support the industry-leading annual Caravan and Motorhome Owner Satisfaction surveys.
They welcome feedback from anyone who has bought, owned and toured in a new or used caravan or motorhome since 1 January 2013. The surveys are now sponsored by Club Care Insurance, the insurance provider to The Camping and Caravanning Club.
Club members and other caravan and motorhome enthusiasts are invited to complete the 2017 surveys, with the results announced in January 2017, ready to help campers plan for the season ahead. Both surveys close on 16 October 2016.
The results will also be published in full in the March 2017 issue of Practical Caravan and April 2017 issue of Practical Motorhome, in the Club’s own February magazine and online at each of the three partners’ websites.
The surveys are long established and their results are highly regarded by caravanners, motorcaravanners, dealers and manufacturers.
The Motorhome Owner Satisfaction Survey was launched in 2004, and the Caravan version followed in 2012. Over the years, tens of thousands of caravan and motorhome owners have reported in depth on their experiences of buying, owning and using their outfit.
The results are essential reading for anyone considering buying a caravan or motorhome, new or used, whether from a dealer or private sale. The information and league tables of the best performing brands and dealers will be made available to all. It also provides valuable data for caravan and motorhome manufacturers to make use of when planning and improving their own products.
Robert Louden MBE, the Club’s Director General, said: “The Club is delighted to join forces with Practical Caravan and Practical Motorhome for the 2017 Owner Satisfaction Surveys. The results will help holidaymakers buy smarter in future, and help manufacturers improve the quality and reliability of their products. Along with our existing Tent Owner Satisfaction Survey, they will add to the authoritative advice we’re able to provide members on all forms of camping.”
Alastair Clements, Group editor of Practical Caravan and Practical Motorhome, said: “For more than a decade, the Owner Satisfaction Surveys have been helping consumers to buy better, and pushing up quality across the board. And its results can be trusted because they are based entirely on the opinions and experience of real caravanners and motorcaravanners, in the real world. We are delighted to join forces with The Camping and Caravanning Club to make these awards the best in the business.”
Nigel Coppen, Client Director at Club Care Insurance, said: “We’re delighted to extend sponsorship of the Club’s Tent Owner Satisfaction Survey to caravans and motorhomes – the results will help people research their next purchase with confidence, and peace of mind in the brands they choose.
“We at Club Care are passionate about providing campers with peace of mind when they’re relaxing on holiday, and that’s why Club Care Insurance products are designed by tent, caravan and motorhome enthusiasts for like-minded people.”

  9. Hi folks

It's my first post here. Please be gentle :-)

We're semi retired 50s and have spent the last 5 years on board a sailing boat in the Med for 6 months a year. We fancy a change of style for exploring and indulging our love for nature, occasional isolation, open water swimming, our dog (Manatee, Shiu-Tsu).

The idea came about having seen travellers in RVs in S Greece, camped on the foreshore whilst we were anchored in the bay.

So we thought we'd rent an RV in the Uk to see how we liked it and quite frankly we're struggling and would appreciate some advice and info before we abandon the idea..

The dream was a super comfy RV akin to our current boat where we could stay visit beaches, lakes, rivers in the Uk. But where? Budget / fees not an issue, but we want AWAY, a quiet spot on or near a bach in S England, Wales. Or a lake. Or a river. We booked a site and arrived after a 6 hour drive to S Wales today to discover that Motorhomes are not allowed (I had no idea there was a difference from a camper van). We are now in a caravan park site that reminds me of a well run refugee camp.

I spent a few days camped at LLyn Gwynant and Lake Bala a few years ago. Something like that or even more remote. Can anyone please suggest a site? We've paid £1000 to hire this thing for a week ann after one night in S Wales in a field among hundreds of caravans lined up in neat rows I'm ready to quit.
    Can anyone help?

  20. Swift Group will have a range of its caravans at the Show, all built using the company’s SMART intelligent construction system. Highlights for the 2015 season include new ‘Aralie Sen’ woodgrain and soft furnishing options in Swift and Sprite models and three new models in the Swift Elegance and Sterling Continental ranges built with advanced SMART HT construction. Sterling will also be on Show with its modern interior design.

Elddis is bringing its collection of caravans to the Show, with new layouts, features and designs all round. All of its ranges are built using the renowned SoLiD construction method. On view will be the Avante, Affinity and Crusader ranges, all built on an Alko chassis and using up to the minute intelligent technology. Elddis will also bring along examples from its award winning Xplore brand, and the Compass Corona and Rallye ranges, with many different layouts to choose from, a large number of them new for this year. And there will be a chance to check out the layouts of the new Buccaneer – including luxurious features such as the new Sky-Scape panoramic front window and underfloor heating.

Bailey will be showing off its brand new third generation development of the Unicorn range, with exciting equipment specifications across all eight models available. The range features reconfigured layouts, adapted to maximise interior living space, chef- friendly kitchens and high spec washrooms. An upgraded Alde central heating system is featured too, using a new, more economical, boiler. And there is the promise of more holidaying flexibility with the new Truma 100 watt solar panel.

Lunar has on show its lightweight luxury caravans, with reduced weights, even higher specifications and stylish contemporary interiors. As well as new fabrics, furnishings, lighting and technology, two brand new models join the range – the six berth Quasar 586 and the four berth Lexon 590. Venus also gets a whole new look for 2015 offering more space and a greatly upgraded specification. Not only this, but five completely new Venus models will be on display offering two, four and six berth accommodation with improved interior finishes, fabrics and a new two-tone exterior.

Coachman will have its new and improved layouts to explore and there is sure to be something to suit everyone. The Vision range is on show, as will be the Laser and VIP ranges with new layouts and re-styled interiors. Premiering at this year’s show will be the new 650/4 layout. Also on the Coachman stand will be the restyled Pastiche with many new features and a panoramic window incorporated into the model.

Adria has produced leisure vehicles for 50 years, and has 40 years continued presence in the UK, and is celebrating these anniversaries by unveiling an exclusive new special model at the Show. The company will also premier its all-new Altea caravan range, as well as its luxurious Astella glam edition.

Airstream will be back with another show-stopping stand, this time with a trio of silver brands on display from Airstream, Eriba and the teardrop trailer maker T@B.

The cool camping trailer experts, who are also the UK’s sole dealers for Airstream, will be showing off the three most popular European Airstreams – the multi-award-winning Series 2 International 684, the 604 and the 534 - as well as two stylish T@B 400 and a T@B 320 RS Off-road, which has been jacked up for those with an adventurous streak.

Tripbuddy is back again, with its unusual but iconic British design taking a revisionist design approach to other caravans! Looking more like a racing car than a traditional caravan, the TripbuddyTM is handmade with high specifications both inside and out.

  21. The Show is the only place to see all the latest products all under the one roof and consumers can benefit from exclusive offers, buying in time for the new touring season.

For 2015 manufacturers have really pulled out all the stops incorporating more innovations than ever before such as solar panels, and low energy lighting to keep running costs down. DAB radios, programmable heating systems, and many other modern features all now come as standard on many new vans. Technical advances in construction also make the new breed of caravan lighter and with many new layouts there’s more to choose from too.
