Please note that the forum is still upgrading will be for most of the night I think, therefore you may find it slow at times, looking different etc etc. This will straighten out (he hopes) as the upgrade continues. One of the big changes is that usernames and display names will change.   At the moment you can have a username and display name for example you can have a username of joeblogsy and a display name of Joe Blogs.   After the upgrade we will only have usernames.   For some this won't make any difference at all but there are a fair few of you that have different display names., many of which I have changed for people for various reasons.   If, after the upgrade you notice your forum name isn't right please just send me a PM with your desired username.   You may also find you have been logged out, if this happens and you cannot remember your original forum details, please email me at mark@touringandtenting or open a support ticket by

  4. Ok people......I know that the Caravan Club has a new name (Caravan and Motorhome Club) or something like that, but what I want to know is which of these two Clubs offer the best value for money for someone only interested in touring the UK for the time being.  The type of sites that I would be mainly interested in are adults only, quiet and within walking distance of a good olde world pub.  Over the coming years though France and beyond will be on the cards and therefore ferry discounts would come into the equation.
  5. Hello all,
Just stopping by to say a hello.
We have an ABI Marauder 400 CT Gold and a Suzuki Vitara V6 petrol which drinks the fuel, but has been a great gettaway outfit on weekends.
We're going to have a look around the forum and explore.
    With very best wishes,

  8. In 2015, 50% of campsite bookings made through the Club’s European Travel Service were for pitches on campsites in France, making it the Club’s most popular European destination.
And with great new campsites at Lac de Sanguinet in southwest France and Plage-Sud in Biscarosse Plage included among the Club’s 90 hand-picked partner campsites in France for 2016, strong advance bookings indicate France’s popularity is set to grow further.
Bookings for the 198-pitch La Bien Assise campsite, around eight miles from the ferry port and handy for Boulogne and the Opal Coast, make it one of the most popular sites with Club members for the second consecutive year.
But topping the table, Le Letty campsite in the Finisterre department of western Brittany was the Club’s most popular holiday site in 2015 and offers direct beach access and a large indoor and outdoor pool complex. Many of the Club’s partner campsites are offering great discounts and promotions on pitches this summer too - from 7 nights camping on selected dates throughout the summer on campsites across Europe to exclusive offers on individual sites. Offers can be viewed at: http://bit.ly/europeancampsiteoffers.
Of course, there are plenty of reasons why more than 80m travellers visit France each year, making it the world’s most popular tourist destination.*
With more than 40 World Heritage Sites including fine cathedrals and stunning châteaux, prehistoric monuments, three very different coastlines, several major mountain ranges, France offers the best of Europe in one country.
France’s motorways remain the envy of the world, while its food and drink are legendary. With lower fuel costs than recent years, you can see why it’s such a hit with campers taking their tent, caravan or motorhome over to the continent in search of the sun.
And whether campers are planning to visit to enjoy sporting drama, in a summer when France will be the focus of sport fans all over the world, or looking for sites off the beaten track to escape spectator hotspots, the Club can help with bookings for the right site via its European Travel Service.
Richard Grimsdale, the Club’s Travel Services Director, said: “France holds a unique appeal and charm with our customers, and many choose to return year after year to take in the unique food and culture of the country.
“Our Travel Service makes it easy for our customers to book all components of their camping trip safely, quickly, easily and securely.”
The Camping and Caravanning Club’s 2016 European Camping Holidays brochure is now available and features more than 140 hand-picked sites in 12 European destinations.
Published by the Club’s European Travel Service, it lists Club-inspected sites throughout Europe, with guidance on the best sites for families or couples of all ages, sites to visit off peak, plus great deals on ferry and Eurotunnel crossings, details of travel insurance, maps, guides and more.

  14. The event, which attracted 22 MPs, gave the NCC the opportunity to talk about the importance of the £6 billion industry to the UK economy and took place just days after the NCC run Caravan, Camping & Motorhome Show at the NEC in Birmingham drew in almost 87,000 visitors.*

Across the UK, the caravan sector employs around 130,000 people and represents a UK manufacturing success story, with some 95 per cent of touring caravans in the UK made here. Over £2.4 billion was spent on UK caravan holidays in 2013 and more than 51 million nights were spent in caravans.

In addition to the 550,000 touring caravans and more than 205,000 motorhomes in use across the UK, there are more than 330,000 caravan holiday homes - a total of over one million leisure accommodation vehicles. In the housing sector there are around 100,000 park homes (mobile homes) in use.

NCC Deputy Director General, Alicia Dunne said:

“Tourism is hugely important for the UK economy. Holiday parks provide good value, family-friendly addition to ‘staycation’ tourist accommodation and touring in a caravan or motorhome is a fantastic way to explore Britain.

“Ahead of next month’s tourism week I am pleased that so many MPs came out in support of our sector. Working together, we can grow our businesses and provide more employment opportunities and deliver outstanding holiday experiences. Already well over two million people take a caravan holiday each year – if we can increase this, we can support British manufacturing and bring additional income to many areas, particularly rural and coastal ones.

“Similarly, residential park homes offer a unique and affordable housing choice for thousands of people across the UK and working with local authorities we can help make this a more accessible housing option/lifestyle.”

At the event, MPs learnt about the NCC’s services and initiatives, including the NCC Approved Code Schemes which provide additional consumer protection, the NCC Training Academy that aims to enhance skills of those working in the sector, and the Central Registration & Identification Scheme (CRiS), the national register for UK touring caravans, which provides a service similar to that of the DVLA for vehicles.

Total for this year - 2.

  20. The cycle-campers will pass through key towns, cities and destinations including Cambridge, Peterborough, Nottingham, Chatsworth Park in the Peak District, Glossop, Huddersfield and Keighley before heading to their final destination.

Further detailed information on the route and the Club Challenge team can be found on the Club’s new dedicated challenge website: www.clubchallenge2014.co.uk

Television presenter and first female Club President, Julia Bradbury will lead the riders over the finishing line at the Club’s Scarborough campsite on Friday, 30 May.

The Club’s founding member, Thomas Hiram-Holding was himself a cycle-camper and established a Club that has expanded from just six members in 1901, to more than half a million enthusiastic campers and caravanners over a century later.

All of the riders undertaking ‘The Challenge’ have agreed to wear traditional cycling clothing, like Hiram-Holding himself, throughout the six days.
The six day cycle-camp challenge will take place during National Camping and Caravanning Week (Monday 26 May to Sunday 1 June), which is now into its 14th year and celebrates the nation’s love for camping and the great outdoors.

The Club is raising money for key partner, Sustrans which is the UK’s leading charity enabling people to travel by foot, bike or public transport. To support The Challenge, please click here: http://uk.virginmone...ngclubchallenge

And there are plenty of opportunities to support the Club’s Challenge Team by following them on its social media channels (www.facebook.com/thefriendlyclub, www.twitter.com/campandcaravan, www.youtube.com/thefriendlyclub and searching for the hashtag #needfortweed.

Robert Louden MBE, the Club’s Director General, said: “Cycle-camping is a huge part of our heritage so it seemed only fitting that in the ‘Year of the Bike, we really set out to complete a challenge in the memory of our founding member, Thomas Hiram-Holding.

“I know sections of the route are very tough but I’m confident that our team of cycle-campers will be able to complete the course. Cycle-camping is very popular with Club members, it’s a fantastic way to explore the British countryside at an inexpensive cost!”

Sponsors of The Challenge include: Swift, Halfords, Vango, Elddis, Outwell, Marquis Motorhomes and Jaguar Land Rover.

If you’re interested in taking on your own cycle-camping challenge, the Club and Sustrans have provided a Tour of Britain resource, which will allow you to plan your trip: http://www.campingan...g-tour-britain/

To support The Challenge, please click here: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/campingandcaravanningclubchallenge

If you’re interested in taking on your own cycle-camping challenge, the Club and Sustrans have provided a Tour of Britain resource, which will allow you to plan your trip: http://www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/ukcampsites/tours-walks-trails/cycling-tour-britain/

  22. Philip’s, the Map and Atlas Publisher, is delighted to announce that the first edition of the Navigator Camping and Caravanning Atlas of Britain has been published, in association with The Camping and Caravanning Club.

The Navigator Camping and Caravanning Atlas of Britain is based on Philip’s famous Navigator 1:100,000 scale mapping, the most detailed road mapping of Britain, including detail down to farm track level.

Robert Louden MBE, Director General of The Camping and Caravanning Club, said “We are delighted to be working with Philip’s to bring this ground-breaking atlas to our members – in fact to all caravanners and campers.
“We are convinced that the quality and detail of the information on offer will make it indispensable.”

Stephen Mesquita, Publisher of Philip’s, added “The Philip’s Navigator range is now the best-selling series of atlases in the UK market* – and the addition of this unique atlas will make the range a must-have for all caravanners, campers and motorhome owners.”
