Please note that the forum is still upgrading will be for most of the night I think, therefore you may find it slow at times, looking different etc etc. This will straighten out (he hopes) as the upgrade continues. One of the big changes is that usernames and display names will change.   At the moment you can have a username and display name for example you can have a username of joeblogsy and a display name of Joe Blogs.   After the upgrade we will only have usernames.   For some this won't make any difference at all but there are a fair few of you that have different display names., many of which I have changed for people for various reasons.   If, after the upgrade you notice your forum name isn't right please just send me a PM with your desired username.   You may also find you have been logged out, if this happens and you cannot remember your original forum details, please email me at mark@touringandtenting or open a support ticket by

  2. Could anyone recommend a good campsite in Italy by the Lake Garda? I’m planning a camping holiday in July next year with my parents. We have earlier visited Rome, but we have never camped in this beautiful country. We have found some good campsites at lux-camp.co.uk and we are considering Camping butterfly and Camping Eden – both look really nice! Camping Eden is located only minutes from Lake Garda. Someone who can recommend one of these two campsites, or other campsites near the Lake Garda?

  6. The 520 pitch campsite benefits from a number of new developments, which are already increasing visitors to the site. These include the instalment of 60 hardstanding pitches, 200 electric pitches, new site roads, a motorhome service point and site barriers.

Holidaymakers will receive a warm welcome to the campsite from a new reception building and the site’s three amenity blocks have all received a refurbishment. They can now be operated during the winter months.

Tony and Jennie Man, Holiday Site Managers at Bracelands, are already seeing the benefits of the recent work and said: “We’ve received glowing reports about the redevelopments from campers staying with us and our site bookings certainly reflect this - we’re 37% up on this time last year!

“Bracelands is a beautiful site and it’s the perfect location for holidaymakers of all ages to explore the local area.”

Bracelands offers panoramic views of the countryside and easy access to scenic walks and cycle paths, plus a large host of additional outdoor activities. For more information about the site, visit: www.campingintheforest.co.uk/bracelands

  9. All the award winners were recognised for their achievements at the lunch held at the Aztec Hotel in Bristol. The awards lunch also marked the official launch of the AA Caravan and Camping Guide, now in its 46th year. The guide has details of over 900 fully inspected and independently graded camping parks across England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

The campsites receiving their awards were

AA BEST CAMPSITE OF THE YEAR 2014
England and Overall winner – Polmanter Touring Park, St Ives, Cornwall
Scotland – Cairnsmill Holiday Park, St Andrews, Fife
Wales – Tyddyn Isaf Caravan Park, Dulas, Isle of Anglesey

Phill Osborne from Polmanter said, ‘We are delighted that Polmanter has received this prestigious award. We are the third generation of the Osborne family to run the site, and we always listen to our customers and think hard about what they would like. This, along with insight gained camping with our own young family, has helped to inspire the provision of individual shower rooms, baby bath rooms and a weekly party for younger visitors in school holidays; alongside our ongoing commitment to provide a warm welcome, spotless, modern facilities and spacious pitches. Our team take great pride in the site and taking care of our guests, and we are really pleased that the high standards that they help us to achieve at Polmanter have been rewarded.’

THE ROGER ALMOND MOST IMPROVED CAMPSITE
Grouse Hill Caravan Park, Robin’s Hood Bay, North Yorkshire
    HOLIDAY CENTRE OF THE YEAR
Hafan Y Mor Holiday Park, Pwllheli, Gwynedd
    SMALL CAMPSITE OF THE YEAR

South East England – Swiss Farm Touring and Camping, Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire
Heart of England – Fields End Water Caravan Park and Fishery, Doddington, Cambridgeshire
North West England – Woodclose Caravan Park, Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria
North East England – South Meadows Caravan Park, Belford, Northumberland

Whether it is a rural hideaway, a seaside family resort or a beautifully landscaped park the AA Caravan and Camping Guide will have the perfect place for all campers and caravanners. There is also a range of self-contained Holiday Centres that offer a wide range of sport, leisure and entertainment facilities.

Campsites are visited by one of the AA’s qualified Campsite Inspectors who look at touring pitches, facilities and hospitality before grading the site from one to five Pennants. For 2014 the AA has introduced Gold Pennants to identify the top quality parks that score 90% and above within the two to five Pennant ratings.

Each entry within the guide includes location, ratings, contact details, directions, prices, opening times, a description and facilities to help select the right site for your needs.

With features on the AA Pennant Scheme and the story of the development of a farm into a campsite the AA Caravan and Camping Guide 2014 is the bible for all planning a holiday under canvas whether they are seasoned campers or first timers.

The AA Caravan and Camping Guide is available from The AA Shop for £9.99 and as an app for iPhone, iPad and Android.

  11. Considering you are booking for a holiday/short break etc and spending your hard earned at their campsite it does sometimes make me wonder when I ring if they are actually in the wrong job.

There is no welcoming "look forward to your visit" "how can we help" etc etc The conversation I had was more like ringing the doctor!

Maybe in this area the competition isn't exactly fearce so no need to bother but it does make you wonder

Come on campsite owners, give us a good reason to visit and maybe revisit

Some of the campsites on the campsite directory have videos added and I have now added a media page where you can see all the current vids in one place http://www.touringtenting.co.uk/campsites/videos small at the moment but growing. Hope you can make use of it. Hover over the image to see the campsite

  19. To say it has been a struggle is an understatement. Last weekend I started the process of backing up and preparing to move the campsites to a new server as the old was slow in the extreme. New server set up then started the move, that was last weekend and only now is it back online and i have spent most evenings trying to resolve the various problems.

That said it is back online now, just tweaking bits but it is usable again. If you spot any probs please let me know
