    • Username and other important upgrade information   09/23/2015

Please note that the forum is still upgrading will be for most of the night I think, therefore you may find it slow at times, looking different etc etc. This will straighten out (he hopes) as the upgrade continues. One of the big changes is that usernames and display names will change.   At the moment you can have a username and display name for example you can have a username of joeblogsy and a display name of Joe Blogs.   After the upgrade we will only have usernames.   For some this won't make any difference at all but there are a fair few of you that have different display names., many of which I have changed for people for various reasons.   If, after the upgrade you notice your forum name isn't right please just send me a PM with your desired username.   You may also find you have been logged out, if this happens and you cannot remember your original forum details, please email me at mark@touringandtenting or open a support ticket by

  1. I have a Numax 85 leisure battery, starting and deep cycle battery which I found had dry cells, topped it up and put it on charge. 6amp charger and it is still charging 10ish hours later.
Had it or is there a chance
  2. Hi all, I reside permanently in my 1997 Swift Silhouette and although I am permanently 'hooked up' the site is experiencing short-term (at the moment) power cuts at very inconvenient times my onboard charger has given up the ghost, and the leisure battery is deceased. I have found a very good charger/maintainer, via the AA as it happens, but wonder if anyone can recommend a battery that will do nothing for 98% of the time but can be called on every now and then. I ask because it will not be deepcycling? as I understand leisure batteries are designed for.
    Many thanks
  3. Hi, wonder if anyone can help. Bought a old 1992 Elddis Wisp 400/2. Does anyone know if this van has a built in battery charger? Red light is on in zig panel saying the battery is low and battery doesnt seem to be charging when hooked up to the mains. Any help or advice greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance

  4. Post on Caravan Possible Power Issues? in Workshop

    By Guest, posted
    Hi All,

While in the caravan checking over the 12v ceiling lights and other things, we noticed that when for e.g. a table lamp is plugged in and switched on in the plug socket that's next to the basic zig charger, it dropped the van battery needles a fair amount.

Correct me if I'm wrong here but if the plug sockets are working on the 240v hook up and it was on providing the van with socket power at the time, why would the battery meter needle make a marked drop in power available to the battery?

It's a large battery from a Mercedes van and it's hooked up to the trickle/fast battery charger that came with the van we recently purchased.

Does the above point to a possible problem or am I just being paranoid and it's somewhat normal behaviour?

Just trying to get shut of any little annoyances before our first week away in it this Easter, don't want an ear bashing off the partner for anything going wrong lol!
