Please note that the forum is still upgrading will be for most of the night I think, therefore you may find it slow at times, looking different etc etc. This will straighten out (he hopes) as the upgrade continues. One of the big changes is that usernames and display names will change.   At the moment you can have a username and display name for example you can have a username of joeblogsy and a display name of Joe Blogs.   After the upgrade we will only have usernames.   For some this won't make any difference at all but there are a fair few of you that have different display names., many of which I have changed for people for various reasons.   If, after the upgrade you notice your forum name isn't right please just send me a PM with your desired username.   You may also find you have been logged out, if this happens and you cannot remember your original forum details, please email me at mark@touringandtenting or open a support ticket by

5. Bailey Pegasus DreamSleep Bed Make Up System

View full video
6. Bailey of Bristol will be showcasing all its latest Alu-Tech caravan and motorhome ranges at The Motorhome and Caravan Show at the NEC, Birmingham from 13 to 18 October 2015 (hall 19, stand: 19.29). There will also be the opportunity to take part in a new Bailey research project and help design future new models, plus daily entertainment, including cookery demonstrations by Monica Rivron, free manicures, face-painting and live music.
A highlight for everyone coming to the show to look at new caravans will be the debut of the new Pegasus range featuring enhanced, reconfigured interiors plus the award winning unique, new DreamSleep, domestic-style seating system that brings new levels of comfort to touring caravans. This new seating system also changes bed-making into a simpler process that can be done in less than a minute which will be proved by live demonstrations using a replica DreamSleep lounge unit.
All seven Pegasus models will be available to view, including three new models (Modena, Brindisi and Palermo) and the first opportunity to see the revised, five-berth Ancona layout which has already been named ‘The Best Tourer for Small Families’ in the Tourer of the Year 2016 Awards by Practical Caravan magazine which said, “it might just be the perfect van for a growing family,’. Prices for the mid-range Pegasus range from £16,999 to £19,799.
The new Pegasus also has the latest, fully programmable Truma Combi 6E dual fuel heating system. This has been tested to deliver record-breaking warm-up times, so hot water and heat is delivered faster when you arrive on site thanks to improved air circulation, all ducting kept inside the caravan and the superior insulation of the Alu-Tech bodyshell. This guarantees warm and cosy interiors for all-season touring.
As usual, the entry-level Pursuit and the latest, award-winning, top of the range Unicorn caravan models will also be popular attractions, offering unbeatable style and value for money.
All the latest Bailey motorhomes will be on show, from the best-selling Approach Autograph range to the new, entry-level Approach Advance range launched earlier this year featuring a narrower 2.35m body width and maximum weights up to 3,500kg so they can be driven without needing B+E driving licence entitlement.
In addition, to demonstrate or answer any questions about the latest Truma heating and hot water systems, or the WSL wheel bolts and tyre pressure monitoring systems, representatives from both companies will be on the Bailey stand throughout the show.
Nick Howard, Managing Director, Bailey of Bristol, said: “We’re particularly looking forward to welcoming everyone to the ‘great indoors’ of the new Pegasus range to experience the comfort of its unique DreamSleep upholstery, and see our demonstration of how it simplifies the bed-making process. And don’t forget that our new Approach Advance motorhome range was only launched earlier this year, so the Bailey range is fresh and more competitive than ever.”

8. • All-star British cast includes: Bernard Hill, Virginia McKenna, Alun Armstrong, Phil Davis, Sue Johnston, Una Stubbs, Simon Callow, and more…• Written by John Miller, Jeremy Sheldon and TV presenter Nick Knowles; with producer Mark Foligno from Moli Films Entertainment who previously worked on The King’s Speech

• ‘Golden Years’ film expected to be released in 2016

A Bailey caravan is playing a central role in a new film, ‘Golden Years’, alongside an all-star cast featuring some of Britain’s best-loved actors, such as Sue Johnston, Una Stubbs and Simon Callow, which is currently being filmed in and around Bailey’s home town, Bristol.

The actress Virginia McKenna and actor Bernard Hill play a couple with a Bailey Unicorn who refuse to fade away into their declining years, or accept the injustice of old age, so after the loss of their pensions in the financial crisis, decide to fight back and are forced into a life of crime robbing banks to get their money back to help save their community and local bowls club.

Described as a heist film with a comedic core, the caravan, one of the best-selling, top of the range Bailey Unicorn models, features prominently as the leading couple use it as a base for their activities.

With filming taking place in Bristol and nearby Gloucestershire, as a local leisure vehicle manufacturer, Bailey was delighted to be invited to supply two caravans, one with part of its roof removed for filming interior scenes in the studio, plus an Approach Autograph motorhome for the crew to use while on location.

A unique and cleverly appropriate model name was created for the Bailey Unicorn used in the film – the Bailey Unicorn Valencia ‘Getaway’. This popular model, with an end washroom and fixed double bed layout, proved perfect for filming the scenes inside the caravan as the new Unicorn features more space in the large front seating area and central kitchen area, providing plenty of room for the actors and crew, while the unique panoramic front window also provided an unobstructed view in and out of the caravan for the cameras.

A selection of behind-the-scenes photos taken during the filming can already be seen on the following Bailey social media feeds: Twitter (@BaileyofBristol), Pinterest (Bailey of Bristol) and Instagram (@BaileyofBristol).

Golden Years has been written by TV presenter Nick Knowles, Jeremy Sheldon and writer/director John Miller, with producer Mark Foligno from Moli Films Entertainment who has worked on other films such as The King’s Speech and I am Slave.

Nick Howard, Managing Director of Bailey of Bristol commented: “Bailey is really proud to be working with a British film and such a strong cast, especially as it is all being created locally in Bristol, and we can’t wait to see the finished results when it’s released in the UK next year.”

More information about the Bailey Unicorn range is available from www.baileyofbristol.co.uk, plus full details of all Bailey’s other caravans and motorhomes, the unique Alu-Tech construction and retailer network, as well as latest news, videos, parts direct service and owners club. 12. * Successful expansion has created significant growth of Bailey's product portfolio, creating a need to invest in new approach for its product development programme
* New dedicated product development team work solely on designing new models
* New investment in design team: five design graduates recruited and senior design consultant appointed; all computer software upgraded to latest CAD 3-D system
* Third generation Bailey Unicorn is first range to benefit from these extra resources, allowing every aspect of each model to be carefully considered and evaluated
* Focussed, market-lead, series-based approach to product development delivers meaningful updates rather than purely (annual) change for change sake
Bailey of Bristol was the first (and only) volume manufacturer in the caravan industry to step away from the traditional annual 'change for change sake' model year cycles to a more efficient 'series-based' product development process focusing on one model range at a time to deliver meaningful, market-lead upgrades for its customers.

With the successful growth in the size of the Bailey product portfolio, most notably the launch of its award-winning motorhome and expansion in to new export markets, Bailey has now invested in a further new approach to its product development programme. The third generation Unicorn range will be the first range to see the benefits of this.

To cope with the added variety and complexity of the design processes for its current and future model ranges, Bailey has established a new dedicated Product Development Team made up of staff from across the company working exclusively on the design of new models.

In addition, there has been a significant investment in the Design Team with the recruitment of five new design graduates plus the appointment of a highly respected senior design consultant with many years' experience in the caravan and motorhome industry, giving Bailey a great combination of fresh thinking combined with practical experience. In addition, the department now has all the latest 3-D CAD computer software to further add to its in-house skills and creativity.

Another key reason for putting extra resources intoits product development is to further enhance the desirability of Bailey leisure vehiclesin a competitive marketplace. By ensuring every aspect of the design of its caravans or motorhomes gets even more careful consideration, from layouts to 'towability', form interior and exterior styling, to specification levels and weights, Bailey wants to maintain its market-leading position and ensure its models are on every new caravan buyer's shortlist.

As ever, the product development process has included evaluating valuable feedback from customers, Bailey retailers and media reviews, as well as from live-in tests by its own staff.

Nick Howard, Managing Director of Bailey of Bristol commented: "With our leisure vehicles being used as far afield as The Outback in Australia as well as some of the hottest and coldest parts of Europe, we are delighted that we now have the extra resources to make a comprehensive range of enhancements to our new models and further improve the satisfaction of our customers - wherever they are!"

"We are really looking forward to launching the new Unicorn range so existing customers and hopefully plenty of new ones can see the results of the extra time and thought that's gone in to them from our new development process. The Unicorn is our best-selling and most luxurious range, and we're now hoping the third generation models will be even more popular," he continued.

Further details of the enhancements to the new Bailey Unicorn will be revealed in the next few weeks prior to the arrival of the first display models on Retailer forecourts in late August.

14. Bailey of Bristol is proud to have worked closely with the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Bath for many years to help develop the design and construction of its leisure vehicles with a view to optimising the towing performance of its caravans.

The University of Bath has become widely regarded as the foremost independent authority in towing stability research, and Bailey used its latest scale model on its stand at The Caravan and Camping show to give live demonstrations of how a caravan's weight distribution is vital for safer towing - which many visitors described as "really useful" and "priceless".

The model showed how a trailer's stability varied according to the location of heavier items, such as gas bottles or batteries. It demonstrated the importance of positioning heavier items near the middle of a caravan, as this proved to be the best weight distribution pattern for superior stability by improving the trailer's ability to recover from external forces affecting the control of the outfit, such as cross wind or buffeting from other road traffic.

As a result of the research Bailey has made some key changes to the design and layout of its caravans to help make them inherently more stable and, as a result, safer on the road. This process began with the development of the Alu-Tech construction system which, with the absence of the heavy plastic cloaking panels found at the front and rear of conventionally built caravans, has a greater proportion of weight concentrated in the centre of the vehicle.

More recently, this thought process was taken a stage further by moving gas bottle lockers and battery boxes to around the axle, which not only enhances stability but also has the added benefit of helping deliver lower caravan nose weights required for many of today's (and tomorrow's) lighter towcars.

"We are really proud of the improvements we've made as a result of our partnership with the University of Bath. While there's been some great advances in towing stability devices in recent years, it would be wrong to rely on them, so we want to ensure our caravans are designed to give a superior, and safer, towing performance." said Nick Howard, Managing Director, Bailey of Bristol.

"Of course, it is still essential for a caravan to be safely matched with an appropriate weight of towcar. Using a stability device is always a sensible precaution and gives added peace of mind, which is why they're available on all our caravans, but we hope they should only be needed in extreme circumstances," he continued.

16. To demonstrate how caravans or motorhomes are perfect support vehicles for leisure activities, Bailey has renewed its sponsorship of the Team Bailey Racing team for 2014 who will, once again, compete in classic Mini championships across the UK and Europe with the luxury of a Bailey Unicorn Madrid as a vital support vehicle while away at races.

Team Bailey Racing compete with classic Mini cars in the Mighty Mini and Masters Historic championships, which means their Bailey caravan will be following them to 11 race meetings across the UK and three in Europe (Belgium, Holland and southern Spain) between April and October this year, covering over 6,000 miles in all weathers.

The Team Bailey Racing driving team attracted a lot of attention during a special appearance on the Bailey stand, which featured one of their Mini cars, at The Caravan and Camping Show at the NEC, Birmingham. After signing autographs and giving away Bailey balloons, they posed for photos with their Mini and a Bailey Unicorn Madrid - at the same time proving how sociable and spacious its lounge area is for all five drivers.

This year, the team has its first female driver, Ella Blue. At 18, she is also the youngest, and will be racing alongside another young driver, Charlie Budd (21), plus Justin Cooper (33), The team is coached by ex-Formula Renault Champion, Westley Barber, with Jonathan Lewis as team leader, who both race a 1964 Mini Cooper S in the Masters Historic championship.

Jonathan Lewis, team leader of Team Bailey Racing said: "This is a very exciting time for me and the team, and I wish to thank Bailey of Bristol for loaning us such a fantastic caravan which means we have a comfortable place to eat, sleep and relax in between races. Some circuits are quite remote, so having the caravan means we can stay on site, work on the cars all evening if required, and then enjoy a nice hot shower, a cool drink or a cup of tea. The caravan is a vital support for the team, and means we will be fighting for the race wins from the off."

Nick Howard, Managing Director, Bailey of Bristol said: "We are delighted to be supporting Team Bailey Racing again this year, and wish them the best of luck for their trips around the UK and Europe. We can't guarantee the results of their races, but we do know the caravan is a real winner."

18. A supersonic car and a Bailey caravan may not appear to have much in common, but they made a joint appearance on The Caravan Club stand on the opening day of The Caravan and Camping Show last week because they both come from Bristol and feature advanced engineering in their design and construction to deliver superior performance on the road.

The BLOODHOUND SSC (supersonic car) and a new Bailey Pursuit 430-4 caravan were joined by Caravan Club member Wing Commander Andy Green OBE, current holder of the World Land speed record and the first person to break the sound barrier. He talked about the research involved in designing a car aimed to achieve speeds of 1,000mph, how caravans play an important role as a base during testing, and how the car and caravan were both proud to be developed in Bristol using the latest British technology.

Bailey, in the form of an Approach SE 760 motorhome, and the
BLOODHOUND SSC have shared the same stage before when they were both chosen to appear on the BBC Top Gear programme showcasing the best of British motor vehicle manufacturing and engineering. The feature was filmed on The Mall in central London, and the result was a typically 'chest-thumping' endorsement for the contribution that Britain has and continues to make to the global motor industry.

Like the BLOODHOUND project, Bailey has also pursued a path of engineering excellence through the development of its Alu-Tech construction system. Introduced five years ago, this patented technology creates leisure vehicles that are more robust, more durable, safer to tow and yet lighter than those produced using conventional methods, while also giving greater protection against the elements.

When you consider that these all these benefits of ownership were achieved without a cost or a weight penalty, thus making it accessible to everybody, you can begin to see why the Alu-Tech construction system is seen by many as the most significant breakthrough in leisure vehicle design technology for thirty years. To date, based upon a proven record of performance in extreme conditions as far afield as the European Alps and the Australian Outback, 30,000 caravans and motorhomes have now been built using the Alu-Tech construction system.

After meeting Wing Commander Andy Green OBE, Nick Howard, Managing Director, Bailey of Bristol said: "It was really inspiring to meet Andy and hear more about the scale and technical details of the Bloodhound project to set a new land speed record. He clearly shares our passion for advanced engineering and took a keen interest in the design and lightweight construction of our Alu-Tech leisure vehicles".

20. Had a bit of a futile search for an overwinter site that isn't expensive so called into our local dealer in Swansea for a look see.

After reading all the negativity on the S2 I was quite surprised at the Barcelona so much so that we have cut a show deal , with a brand new awning,a good PX for our Arizona, and some extra bits and bobs like a full cover, tow cover, additional water carrier ( as I will miss the on board tank) and some winter bags for the water carriers, we collect in week 47

They had a S1 Pamplona for sale there and didn't like the layout , definitely thought the spec was much better on the S2. My opinion.

Looking forward to the fixed bed the most and the wet heating system for the winter.

Happy to keep all included in any upcoming issues that may arise and looking forward to the mixed bag of responses on the look.

At the end of the day we like it inside and out and that is all that matters to us.

My philosophy is if you feel lucky you get lucky, one life and we are living it to the best of our means .
