My gawd I have just been saying to Sonja that my Android apps are better than her Blackberry apps becasue my app for biking tells me how well or not I am doing against previous times I don't even know how the conversation started

Years ago a phone was something I made calls on hated now it goes everywhere with me.

Do you get phone envy or in my case App envy

Hi all,
Good Post Phil, just my sentiment but have got to admit I'm not really savvy with all this. I want a phone to talk to people but I do realise that this same piece of machinery will in the not too distant future  do everything from waking you up in the morning to turning the lights on,kettle, blinds open, start and warm car and the Blxxdy things can even clock you in at work. Marvellous !!!!

Same here. It measures how far I am from the green; how SHORT! I have just hit that drive; weather; email; levelling; aerial direction and a Phone!  Just needs to morph into a Leatherman multi-tool and we've cracked it.

I used the Endomondo app once whilst out on my bike. But apart from showing me where I've been on a map and a 'showing off' link to Facebook, I dont think it can do anything my cyclo-computer can't do!

I have just had to go onto a search engine to find out what the hell an APP was !

My first mobile phone weighed a ton and was attached to a battery easily as large as my briefcase, then I finally upgraded to some kind of Nokia that I could clip to my belt, it had large buttons that even I could use without donning my reading glasses, the phone was built like a brick and lasted for years, then SWMBO insisted we upgrade (we only have one between the pair of us) and she got this hinged in the middle thing that I hated so we chucked it away and now have a hand me down from my daughter who seems to change her phones almost as often as she changes her clothes.

I know that when Phil1041 was here earlier in the year his infernal and very accurate APP told me that the GPS positioning for our sites entrance gates was wildly wrong, which it was..................... I regularly see visitors using their APP's as spirit levels and for all manner of other things, it all leaves me cold, I want something that is steam driven and is so basic that even Big Jimmy my horse could almost use.

But there again, I hated computers when they first came out and now I spend hours on them every single day!
My whole life is all about making certain special people have special holidays with us !

I just want one so I can contact people.  Must admit I quiet like the idea of using it to turn the heating on.  The other benefit is that if your caravan moves it lets you know, dependent on the system you have

What do you mean in the near future, you can do that stuff now.  I know of a few people who can open their garage doors with their phone, and they don't even have to get the phone out of their pocket. Its all done automagically via electrickery.

No one hated mobiles more than me to begin with but like most things, they grow on you! What changed my mind was having older kids?, if the phone stayed silent then I had no need to worry!

Today they are still mobiles but hardly phones, infact it's not that easy to use them as a phone, but today as something you  'don't leave home without' they are now up there with the house keys!!

As for I-Phone v Android question, simply I will not buy anything that tries to corner the market. Open source Android will win in the end. Think Philips Video 2000 v  Betamax and VHS, 2000 was far ahead of the pair of them but Philips tried to keep it all to themselves and paid the price. Same goes for Philips screws and Pozi-drive screws, lost that one as well.

One concession though is Philishave, would not have anything else Posted Image

The convenience of the apps on todays smart phones is astonishing today with my Android phone I scanned and converted some documents to pdf to email on because the scanner at work was playing up, and then with the aid of a £12.00 bluetooth adapter off ebay read the ODB codes and put the engine warning light out on the company Ssangyong Rexton.
