camping is something every child should experience? that is from a poll carried out by the CCC.

I am biased as I think my kids loved it up to about 14,15, I think though that kids should have and enjoy any type of holiday, they also say that grandparents taking the kids away is on an increase, is that because money is tighter for parents.

What do you think? Should camping be an experience all kids should have? Do you take your grandchildren away with you and do they enjoy it....Do you enjoy it Posted Image

Hi all,
Coming from a family of ten, I know the meaning of family and the importance of being part of a family. Our two came away with us from toddlers to late teens now they both have four kids each and as much as we love 'em all, now time is our time, I'm a little old fashioned, we did what we thought best for them,we taught'em to walk,we taught 'em talk, showed 'em a big wide world and now in our opinion it's up to them to bring up theirs. I do agree that things a probably tighter at the moment and Gran & Grandad are helping out but I also feel todays parents are more materialistic than we were. So yes Mark I believe all kids should be allowed to take a holiday away, camping or caravanning.

Totally agree with everything you wrote Ray, but having said that, there is an ever growing need for places where you can go without them tagging along.

It would be interesting to see what a similar survey if conducted by the CC would show as long ago we left the CCC because it was too family orientated in its beliefs.

Our three loved it when we got our first van - they were 7 at the time and really enjoyed themselves over the next 7 years.  They're quite categoric about not caravanning with us now BUT they reserve the right to change their minds if we're going somewhere that they're interested in !

Interestingly enough none of them have completely rejected the idea of owning their own van ...

What I find rather more odd is that I'm in general agreement with Ray (Even if I'm not a grandad yet)

Mine absolutely loved it. The eldest was born in 78 and our first van was 81 or 82. The other two lads (3 lads in all) have grown up caravanning.

They all loved it and often reminisce about some things I dont remember

I think it gave them independence from an early age. You could leave them out playing in the knowledge they were safe. They thought they were doing what they wanted but they were being watched.

There was a good number of years when there we toured and rallied with 2 friends. We had 3 kids, one had 5 and another 3. So 6 adults and 11 kids....the Rally Marshalls used to stick us in a corner which we actually preferred. The BBQs used to be in shifts.
