Weve got John Prescott as one of ours, no photo of him either, mind you he does have more faces than a town hall clock!!

Thanks for the link. We have been in France for the last 6 weeks so have missed seeing anything locally although no leaflets through the door either! I knew the election was happening but had no idea who the candidates were until now.

They always say you could a pig up for labour in S Yorks and it would win

Maybe that explains the lack of photo

PS I live in S Yorks

Seriously, these people are going to be very powerful so use your vote. Dont ignore it and then moan afterwards

The problem highlighted on the radio the other day was that the majority of the people standing for the position were former MPs who had lost their seat.  I think the job should be restricted to people who have police experience even if they left the force 20 years ago and must definitely have no criminal record which I suppose excludes a lot of MPs.  Posted Image

I'm still looking through the candidates, not one of them has a great big searchlight which they can use to project a Bat symbol into the night sky though Posted Image

I completely disagree with this idea. It is supposed to make the police more accountable, but I don't see how. Our politicians are supposed to be accountable, but look at the dogs dinner they have got us into, and we still have to wait another three years before we can register our feelings. The PCC's will have a lot of power, and to me it politicises the police force into party lines, something I really don't think would be in our best interests. On top of that the PCC's will be making election promises that will make great headlines, but won't necessarily be good for policing. I just can't see how this benefits anyone, other than failed politicians.

Having said that I'll still go and vote, I'm a firm believer in you have no right to moan if you didn't vote.

Alec.

I don't think that elected Police Commissioners will reflect the public's needs or aspirations - in almost any election in the UK the biggest majority of voters don't vote, the next biggest groups of voters vote on traditional dogmatic lines so it'll be minority interests that will decide who gets the job - but even they probably won't understand what the job entails as very few people understand what the existing police authorities actually do.

I don't like the idea of concentrating so much power in one person - the old idea of a Police Authority was much better IMO.

How can the choice be good when all we've got in our area is a Tory nominee and a Labour nominee - what's that got to do with local needs ?
