Should we have a debating forum that contentious posts and threads would be moved to and would not be visible to visitors. It would still be moderated but readers and posters would post at their own peril

A moderator would be required for this forum, please PM me if interested, if it goes ahead that is. I couldn't expect our existing mods to do it without talking to them first

Being pedantic, you can't have any forum without debate, that's what forums do - I presume this suggestion is for something even more unrelated than we currently have.

At the end of the day it will depend on what sort of Forum you want overall. Having such a section could be very divisive because what ever happens in that section could easily spill over into other areas of the forum.

I voted for as it makes life easier for me.

I come to a caravan forum for caravan related discussion, that's not too much of a surprise is it? Posted Image Posted Image

If people want to debate non caravan related "stuff" and get personal.. be my guest.. but if I know it's happenning in the Debating Forum I know I don't need to go there!

Just MHO.

But surely isn't that what the 'General' forum is all about?

A forum removed from caravanning, touring, campsites, technical, etc!

Hi all,
A note towards Roger and David, I suggested this to Mark as I am personally totally peeved off when nameless faceless people take it upon themselves to turn differance of opinion into arguments, that then become personal. You will have noted that I have recently come from a n other forum where Admins Moderation is certainly more strict than it here on T & T but what we've seen this last couple of weeks is not in my opinion good for the forum.

NB: I can enjoy lively debate, but don't enjoy mud slinging nameless faceless people getting personal with me.

As Ron has quite clearly pointed out 'General' was originally created with the intent of keeping all of the off topic stuff in one area !

the logic of that means that within a thread on a technical matter, if someone became personal, the technical thread would have to be moved!!

All in all I prefer that other forum, though I reserve the right to drop in here now and then.

I just wonder what has moved from that forum to this to make make you comment "but what we've seen this last couple of weeks is not in my opinion good for the forum."!!??

Many forums have a section called the Social Club or Social Room where non camping discussions take place. If anyone is in the habit of viewing new content there is a means with an IP Board Forum to set a filter excluding certain sections from appearing in the new content so it would be possible to avoid such posts. The trouble is if it gets heated between people in what ever you call the section they are hardly likely to be best of friends all of a sudden when discussing the merits of various types of caravan. You then start getting complaints about heavy handed moderation.

I can understand where you are coming with that observation Graham, could it be because that forum is far larger and has far more people who are active on it, however it is a forum which is so totally over-moderated by certain mods (excluding David) and a certain senior member of Admin who is protecting his financial investment ?

One of the things I like so very much about T&T is the transparancy that is ( I believe ) a direct result of most people using their real first names and personally speaking, I would like to see it adopted by Mark as being a pre-requisite of membership of T&T.

Hi all,
You're preaching to the converted Big Louis, I've got no problem putting my name to anything ( I even put my name to my Company ).
I would have prefered a ballot to an open vote though.
