On my s-max i use Pyramid Products "rock steady" mirrors. No issues with vibration, hold well and do their job.

I use milenco mirors, very simular to the aero ones, which I bought about 15 years ago. Never had a problem at all with them. If I could afford them I would upgrade to the milenco grand aero's

I  know its a lot of cash, but I really want to be sure that the mirrors we get will do the job within the law. We did have a pair of the scissor ones that fastened with straps, I doubt I have the strength in my hands to pull them tight enough now. Plus they were the ones that flew off when we were driving down the road. the strap obviously had not been tight enough or securely fixed, no incination to repeat the performance!!

Your wrong.

Your rear mounted camera doesn't give you lateral vision that mirrors do, and extended mirrors extend your lateral vision. Added to the fact the law is quite specific, you must be able to see the rear corners of the caravan. Your camera doesn't allow this.

As you have never sat in my car or have seen the set-up , you have no idea on what vision I have to the rear , so you are in no position to comment on what I can or can not see . and you appear to have missed the point I DO use extended  mirrors
Suffice to say with the set-up I have I can see everything alongside AND in the blind spot directly behind for miles , something NO door mounted mirror alone can do .
Add on extended mirrors can NEVER be as good as a solid mounted extended rear-view mirror , and who wants to drill their doors or wings and fit mirrors from an HGV
My set-up gives the BEST option for rear view , satisfies the mirror police , even though, rear vision through the mirrors can be VERY deceptive , as it is far too easy to loose the fast moving vehicle coming up to pass in the vibrations .
The rear view camera gives a clear stable image . and IMO is safer . with regard to having a clear view down each side of a caravan, at slow speed the mirrors may help otherwise …………..
I have only been caravanning for about 40 (forty ) years so am a bit new at this , But in that time I have NEVER found an extending mirror that gives a truly stable rear view image.

And another vote for Milenco Aero. Used to use the rubber strap type on the previous car and used to find they marked the black paint. Not noticed any vibration problems with them.

Does anyone know if the Ford S-Max has the same mirrors as the Mondeo 2009 TDCI estate I have just bought?.

I have changed from a 2004 TDCI Estate and my towing mirrors forced the glass on the new car mirrors way out of place when I tried them.

The old Mondeo has larger slightly slimmer mirrors and I think the straps on my towing mirrors are casing the problem when pulled over the new smaller slightly fatter ones.

If the S-Max mirrors are the same as mine then either the Pyramid "Rock Steady" or the Milenco Aero would appear to be the answer.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Keith

I am off to Swaffham next weekend , SWIMBO is to be allowed a rare opportunity to drive ( I am a very bad passenger , but have vowed to keep quiet ) , so I will video the image seen on the mirrors and then the rear view screen and post the results . this may help to clarify my comments
