Just because a thread contains negative comments that a mod is not in agreement with , should not be a reason to close it, dare I say censorship , Shades of CT creeping in . PLEASE don’t go down that path , left that forum for exactly that reason .
This is a forum of widely differing opinions some deeply held ( Mine still in total opposition to us hosting the event ). Had the thread been fawning over how wonderful the games are would it have been locked for being too positive ,I THINK NOT

we rarely close threads I just felt it was all very negative and we had another thread open for olympic comments, I thought it was better to have one open than 2?

Just scanned through the other thread , and all is all fawning and still running , no balance there ! perhaps the threads should have been merged to provide balance , negative or not the views expressed were valid and have a right to be expressed , we will have to aggree to disagree

Contribute negative posts to the open thread if you feel the need - I agree with Sonja that one open thread is better than two - closing the other one isn't remotely like the censorship that goes on on CT or PC.

Just an observation

What do you mean, not you Rodders. Rodders has said he is anti Olympics. Thats his perogative but if youre sick of people moaning about the games he has to be one of them.

Personally I wasnt excited but now its happening I think its a fantastic spectacle and well worth the £150 each it has cost so far (9 billion divided by 60 million UK citizens). As I said previously, the BBC coverage alone is worth the £150 (I pay £90+ a month to Sky).

If people want to moan, let them but to me it makes no sense

Personally I take offence by the above comment and I honestly do think that such comments are crass and should be moderated.

The flag shown against my name is because of the country I live in and not because I am French as anyone who knows me well will testify to the fact, furthermore I am royal blue through to the very core.

The original post I made which I believe has now been unlocked was made because I sincerely feel you shouldn't compliment anyone or any competitor for a mediocre performance.
Personally I believe the modern idiom of non competitive sports in schools is so stupid that there can only be one result.

In the commercial world any business has to win to remain in business, any salesman has to sell to keep his/her job and as far as I am concerned any sportsman should go all out to win, come what may.

I don't like Phelps as a person, I don't like his attitude but I can't do anything other than admire him for his total balls out commitment to win.
Only today when he finished his 200m backstroke, he was so exhausted that he was on the point of throwing up and couldn't be interviewed for some time after the event, but in other events other competitors who have not won have been immediately interviewed and they have been hardly out of breath.  For me that says it all.
My whole life is all about making certain special people have special holidays with us !

Sorry but your suggestion that  how the competitors appear on TV when they're interviewed is any indicator of their commitment is utter nonsense.

I'm fed up of people moaning

I can't wait for the PARALYMICS to start  - -

I really wish I was still fit and able to even do 10% of what these Atheletes are doing
I used to regularly cycle 40 miles or walk 20 miles on a weekend day

Not 20 METRES is too much

More power to OUR athletes would love to still be one

Phelps hasnt won all the events hes entered

Theres a difference between not winning and not trying............I dont think you can accuse anyone who has reached the Olympics of not trying........sometimes they are just not good enough......it happens

I assume you are referring to me?  I support the British athletes all the way, but do not agree with the Olympics being held here at this time and the possible negative legacy it may leave us.  BTW I can trace back my British heritage to the 17th century plus I swore an oath to the queen when I was in the services!
Sometimes I pretend to be normal, but it gets boring so I go back to being me.
