Bought a CRV ES with auto box just a month ago after having seven Shoguns in succession. Just love it. It pulls a Unicorn Cadiz very easily although it must be close to the CRV's towing limit. Fuel consumption, according to the dash read, out has dropped to 21 mpg  at times but much better solo of course.
Reason for change was similar. My other half has a hip problem and it was obvious that getting in and out of the Shogun was an increasingly painful problem.
The CRV seem to have obviated that.

My mum has less strength in her left side and it seems really easy to access and will a flat floor area inside she is really comfy...seems that the CR-V is not the obvious choice but seems to be a winner with owners !

Very close my friend , the CRV  Dtec Automatic has a maximum towing limit of 1500kg and your van has a MPTLM of 1593kg so I would be careful not to load your van to its maximum or your may end causing damage to your Autobox .
A manual Dtec CRV would be far more suitable for your van with the higher towing limit of 2000kg
