I am flying to Poland for a week in August for a wedding. I'm looking forward to my first trip to Poland. I'm not looking forward to flying cattle class with Ryan Air - but I never booked the flight and they were super cheap so ho hum.

My issue is the luggage situation. We have been told it's hand luggage only, maximum of 10kg but I can't find the maximum dimensions for the cases anywhere. I have looked but am having a mare finding it on the website.

Can anyone advise please and also any recommendations for a "Ryan Air Friendly" bag. Ideally I would like a rucksack rather than a case.

Many thanks.

The dimensions are on the Ryanair website in the long piece about the baggage regs   under Cabin Baggage

Quote

Strictly one item of cabin baggage per passenger (excluding infants) weighing up to 10kg with maximum dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm is permitted. (handbag, briefcase, laptop, shop purchases, camera etc.) must be carried in your 1 permitted piece of cabin baggage

I don't understand why people moan about Ryanair.
If you don't like their conditions - don't travel with them!

We both use Ryanair and have absolutely nothing but praise for their excellent services.

We have used them several times a year since 2004 and have never had a flight depart late, in fact almost always our flights have arrived well ahead of schedule and as for the costs, as long as you don't buy in flight drinks, I honestly can't see how they can supply such an excellent service for the money.

2 years ago I flew from Limoges to Liverpool and then almost immediately caught a connecting flight to Aberdeen for a total flight cost, inclusive of taxes of €35.
My whole life is all about making certain special people have special holidays with us !

The easiest way to get around the Ryanair baggage allowance, is to wear all of the clothes you want for your trip. The only problems will be, if they start to weigh the passengers, the cabin air conditioning fails or your trip is for more than a couple of days? Posted Image

I have only used Ryan air once -- thank goodness. In my job in my working life I spent nearly every other day flying on behalf of HM generally it was Business class, and I swore that I would not fly again -- if I could help it. I have almost kept to this apart from going to Dublin a few years ago for our Silver wedding.

Our son booked us with Ryan Air-- Posted Image
I would suggest that you think long and hard -- go to some Physical training sessions to get fit.
Wear light clothes.
DON'T wear a hat!!! I always wear a hat!!
When I approached the check in I was told to remove my hat -- normal trilby type.
Why?
Company policy - you might be a terrorist!
OK took off hat -- now hat constitutes hand luggage -- only allowed one hand luggage -- unless you pay extra.
I put my hat on -- got shouted at to remove my hat.!!

OK I screw it up and stuff it in my pocket.

My bag -- now this had to fit inside a small cage thing and if any part of the bag was showing over the edge of the cage it was TOO BIG and you had to pay more..
Managed all this and was now expecting to get a seat number..
NO -- we don't do seat numbers
-- Unless you have paid extra to be sitting together.
You just have to get to the plane as quick as possible and grab a seat
-- hopefully you can get one for the wife as well -- or she will have to find her own.
We got on the plane and sat near each other -two rows apart !

I took out of my pocket my screwed up hat as it was a bit bulky and sat holding it.
Was told to put it in the overhead locker - for safety sake.
But then was told that as I had already put one bag there
- so I could hold it and that could charge me for additional hand luggage...
---  I Stuff hat back into pocket.

Arrival at the other end was no better --  walking in the rain from the aircraft, not much fun when you are +70 .

Holiday in Ireland was absolutely wonderful and the people were fabulous the Hotel at Howth in Dublin was smashing..

All spoilt by the thought of going through the same flight check in and shenanigans on the way home.

NO I would NOT fly with them again.. In fact it confirmed that I don't want to fly with any one again..

An aluminium box behind a car on the road is better than a long aluminium box in the sky.

Best of luck --- enjoy your flight.

Been there when my wife was pregnant - the boarding process was a free for all - a total joke. People were pushing and shoving. Apparently you can now pay for "priority boarding" but the reviews online seem to suggest it's a waste of money as neither the staff or passengers take any notice.

I'll take my chance - anyone who shoves me can expect a sharp jab to the ribs!

Maurice

It has been reported by regular Ryanair users that some airports use a square cornered cage and others use a rounded corner cage.

This may result in a  bag being accepted at the departure airport but rejected at the return flight ....or visa versa.Posted Image

Maurice, either you're being ironic or you've posted the most awful old tosh!

Ryanair is a perfectly good budget airline. As someone's pointed out they're reliable and the planes are comfortable. The staff are courteous. They have regulations and conditions for travel, some of their own and some required by airport security; hardly onerous. Given your very short flight, probably less than an hour, is it really so vitally important that you sit next to your wife? That you wear your hat? Next time (if ever) you elect to fly please let me know & I'll make sure I'm not in the queue behind you!

Many years ago when I needed to travel from Gatwick to Edinburgh and Glasgow a couple of times a week I'd go on Air UK. Less than an hour's flight & they used to serve us with a cooked breakfast to be eaten with proper cutlery. All very nice, but at over £200 return (and this was in the early 90s) it was patently ridiculous.

Domestic flights these days are for commuting, not enjoying the lavish flight luxuries of yesteryear when we were all on expense accounts. Unless you want to pay scheduled airline prices of course!

As with so many things in life, you get what you pay for, Ryanair is just a bus in the sky, cheap, not cheerful, and hay, at least you get a seat, seldom the case on the train.

Sorry for putting my point of view -- It certainly was not ironic -- just the facts - as we saw them -- at the time....
If you turn up any where wearing a hat -say on a bus - in church - what are you supposed to do with it -- ??
When two people book together on one ticket -- Is it so strange that the two people travelling together would want to sit together?
especially two elderly pensioners?
Not - as you put it Vitally important, but probably polite to allow them to do so.

Is it the norm these days that you have to run and push your way to the front so as to acquire a seat?

By the way two ladies with hats were not asked to remove them -- one was cabin crew and the other a passenger. kept them on for the whole flight.

The level of service -- by what ever standard you might like to adjudge it by --  was poor.

But that is probably the norm these days -- that is why I do not like travelling by air.

There is talk of charging to use the toilets on the aircraft? £1 -- sort of a captive audience

Also if the flight is delayed -- for what ever reason -- you will be asked to pay a surcharge they call this 'Cancellation & Delay Levy’
One flight was delayed because of refuelling problems -- passengers faced a surcharge of €25 each because they were on the aircraft. If they were in the airport under EU rules Ryan Air would have to pay "reasonable costs" to the passengers for any delay.

Ryan air already earns up to £450 million a year through on-line check-in fees, at least £350 million through credit and debit card charges, and at least £320 million through baggage charges, or another way of looking at it -- 42% of its income comes from additional fees and charges.  Not Advertised..

Perhaps I have got something wrong here??
