No wonder I hate the very thought of eating a mass produced hot dog !!

Like you I wasn't fully aware of what Mechanically Reclaimed Meat was until I saw a program with Jimmy Doherty where he set to making his own chicken kievs. He said that the meat is bashed and damaged to much that there is virtually no good left it in. Changed my mind about eating anything MRM again.

Shame - I love a hotdog!

Do you not remember adverts for beefburgers a couple of decades back, proudly proclaiming 100% beef - that doesn't just mean nothing added but also means nothing taken away - so as well as lean and fat meat, they contain the gristle, bone and skin all ground up !!!

I had to repair a TV in a factory that made pies, frankfurters, processed meats etc.  I no longer eat any of those items with the exception of Fray Bentos bully beef if you can get it!
Sometimes I pretend to be normal, but it gets boring so I go back to being me.

Yet again another reason for dealing with your local butcher. Having been involved in the meat trade most of my working life I can assure all that the local private butcher takes a great pride in his products, Pies, sausages, cooked meats etc. So please do not confuse the rubbish that is being turned out in mass production to the the good quality products that are available should you take the time to look. I agree and am a big fan of my local butcher, although for families on a show-string budget the prices can be quite scary.

When we lived in the UK we had a local farmer / butcher where the meat was of the kind that they could name the animal it came from, and as for the sausages and pies that Pete Mellars made, well I can fully understand why he had one all the prizes throughout the UK for his products.

Over here in France, pork tastes like pork used to taste 30 to 40 years ago back in the UK, yes even the stuff purchased at the supermarkets and if you buy it in bulk like we do when our local Le Clerc has it on 'promo' then you can buy enormous pieces for very little indeed.
When we get home Wonderous gets out her mincer and sausage maker and makes her own in large batch quantities that are pure meat and absolutely no additives apart from herbs and with these, her hot dogs are something to die for.................  I kid you not !

Several years ago I found a cows eyelid complete with lashes in a cheap value supermarket beefburger!!! Posted Image  Now we never buy processed meats of any kind, except local butchers sausages.

When I was a lad, my mate used to help the local butcher make the sausages - don't think anything better went into them !!!
