Said the email.

Don't get excited said I.

£2.50 win Posted Image

Oh well you got to be in it to win it. Why can't the email read "News about your ticket don't get your hopes up though" or similar

It's very annoying as you're secretly hoping it's going to show a balance of £2million. I haven't had a win for almost a year now - thinking about stopping it altogether.

When you see "that" email in you're inbox you have a few moments of excitement, anticipation ...you know it means you've won something, but you just don't know how much!

I know a guy at work who will put off opening the email just to make the excitement last longer and there's another guy who won't buy tickets online because he likes to decide when he checks his ticket and will sometimes delay checking for days after a draw has taken place, he says it's something 'to look forward to' ... strange how different folks are with this !!

If I get an email about a Lottery win, I know it's a scam as we gave up buying Lottery tickets years ago when I realised that Premium Bonds give a better return just in terms of the basic £50 prize - like the Lottery they also have the chance of a big win but unlike the Lottery you can get your money back at the end.

Although a lottery ticket costs £1 - the minimum investment with Premium Bonds is £100.

Yes - so if you buy a lottery ticket twice a week, that's £100 a year - you have a slim chance of winning a fortune from either - and at the end of the year you can get your £100 back from Premium Bonds.

In all the years the Lottery's been running, I've never won a thing from them. I suppose I could increase my chances somewhat if I bought a ticket, but then Premium Bonds are a far better investment.

The original post reminded me of the time I hadn't checked my football pools coupon !
I had a knock at the door on a Monday evening, a well dressed gent with a clipboard was at the door and asked "Mr.S........?"
Yes I replied, he then said "I'm from Littlewoods Pools"
My heart nearly stopped beating and my brain was shouting "I've Won, I've Won"
The gent then asked me "Would you like your coupon deleivered each week"
Talk about deflated, I couldn't even reply I just shut the door and felt like crying.

When I was a kid my Grandfather lived with us. Every week the 'Pools Man' would come round to get the money and coupon. He was so well known in our house that he would let himself in the back door and help himself to a coffee or beer!
