5:00pm Friday 29th June 2012 is the moment I retire officially - although I unofficially retired in 1999.

Now all I have to do is sort out Department of Work and Pensions who seem to have calculated my state pension wrongly - but I'm looking forward to Messrs Cameron, Clegg, Milliband and successors paying me, instead of the other way round.

Hi

I bet you will still be paying them as when you get your pension. your other pension you have been living on from1999 will get taxed.

They give it and then take away.

Happy Full retirement

Congratulations on reaching "full" retirement Roger.

I hope you enjoy many more years 'vanning.

According to WWW.Direct.Gov.UK I will have to be 65 years, 7 months and 5 days (so only another 7 years, 6 months and 7 days to go!!!).

Although I took early retirement 4 1/4 years ago when I was 53 3/4s!!!

We were fans of Stocks/Shares PEPs/ISAs, right from their early days, so I stopped contribution to my pension plan in the last part of my working life but put the "contributions" into Unit Trusts through PEPs/ISAs - although I didn't get tax relief on the contributions I don't pay any tax on the capital growth nor the dividends - which are far more than a pension annuity would be and will continue to be outside the reach of HMRC.

You are right though, that my small private pension when added to my state pension does take me over the threshold so I will have to pay some Income Tax, particularly as the personal allowance for pensioners was frozen at the last budget unlike every other personal allowance!

Congratulations from me too Roger. I was fortunate enough to retire early and despite my colleagues assuring me I'd be bored, feel guilty and useless and be somehow unfulfilled, nothing could be further from the truth!

Things I used to regard as drudgery have become enjoyable. You'll have the time to take your time and what you can't do today, well there's always tomorrow...

Enjoy, and jolly good luck to you.
