A RED document..
One of the reasons given is that " Following the theft of a number of blank blue V5C's to reduce the risk of motorists buying a stolen or cloned vehicle"
Has any one else had one -- It isn't a scam ??? is it??

As with road tax, MOT and insurance details which are all on-line so how long will it be before we go paperless? Also given that we seem to be living in an era of ANPR law enforcement why have the paper?
One of our cars was MOT'd last week, you no longer get a 'certificate' just a scrappy piece of A4 paper! not designed to be in anyway secure, so why bother?

ANPR enforcement is very effective but when the data held is incorrect the paperwork is necessary to defend the case.
A paper MoT certificate needs to be issued even now to give the relevant reference number for anyone to check the MoT status and details of all advisories.

I'm glad you think a piece of paper will be valuable when stopped by the Police, incorrect details are a problem but having a piece of paper at the roadside will do little to resolve the matter.
Why can't MOT details be sourced from a search by resgistration number ?

At a ANPR stop, having a piece of paper forces the police to carry out further checks - like phoning an insurer or DVLA direct - if the information they get contradicts the ANPR system then they can't impound the vehicle.
Registration number and make can be used to determine if a valid MoT exists but further information like it's dating and advisories can only be obtained from reference numbers on the worthless paper MoT certificate or the V5C.
