I thought Mill House Caravan Park was in Borth or it was when we last went there?  If that river is in flood, just about every static will be flooded.  The touring caravan field is at the bottom and to leave to have to return through the static area.  This "river" is normally a bubbling little stream.
We are beginning to consider ourselves lucky as we booked a site in West Wales starting from Monday, but the cancelled a month ago in favour of a site near Brean in Somerset.
Sometimes I pretend to be normal, but it gets boring so I go back to being me.

Just got a text that a work colleague of mine has his static on this site. Not good. He's sprightly for a 71 year old but his wife isn't. This has been their weekend retreat for the past 10 years.

A very good friend of ours lives just down the way from Mill House, but he is in Kabul at the moment and probably does not even know whether his home is being flooded.

Caravans can't float, they're not watertight !!!

On a serious note, it must be devastating for those involved - we must hope that there are no injuries, or worse, and that "only" property and possessions are involved.

I expect a lot of them would have been packing up today to go home at the end of the half term holidays; talk about terrible timing! At least caravan and equipment can be replaced by insurance; what was really heartbreaking was to see the torrents of water flooding through peoples homes!

I guess if you apply the same logic as per the 'vans, the houses will also be insured. I think to have this happen to either your home or holiday retreat is equally as upsetting.

try getting insurance if you live to close to river, our house is 440 yards approx from the river Nene the river is a good 18 feet lower than the street we live in yet most of the major insurers say we live on a flood plain . managed to get insured and have stuck with the same company for quite a few years now

A deal struck between the government and Association of British Insurers in 2007 means that there are a few insurers who will insure homes and businesses on a floodplain, of which my old business was one. That deal expires 30th July 2013 and is yet to be renewed so, currently, anyone who owns a property on a floodplain after this date may not be able to insure it against flood damage. Around 200,000 were suspected to be at risk and I suspect that figure may have seen an increase over the weekend.

I agree it must be upsetting either way but if its the van at least you can go home to a warm dry house (hopefully)

We have a lot of trouble too and we're not that close to a river.   We were flooded in 2007 (twice in a week), lost our caravan, and suffered a great deal of loss and stress over 18 month whilst it was all put back together.    Insurers hiked up the premium to extortionate levels.   Now we are 5 years on we can now change insurer hopefully for a better deal.
