Hi

The wheel bearings have failed after 2000 miles fitted 2 months ago, the inner wheel arch on one wheel is worn through where the wheel has touched it
there does not seem to be anything the engineers can find that is obvious any ideas ?

One, I'd put down to hitting a kerb or a particularly bad pothole. It only takes one hefty knock to shred a perfectly good wheel bearing. Two sounds like a manufacturing fault or installation error, unless the brakes have been binding and overheating the bearings.

Once the bearing has collapsed internally, it will introduce a lot of play in the wheel. If you jacked the wheel off the ground and grabbed it by the edges, you'd no doubt find that you could wobble it up and down or left and right to quite a degree. Presumably, the centre of the bearing is offset from the centre line of the tyre, meaning that the wheel is always trying to lean over in the direction that it has done, however a properly working wheel bearing would prevent this movement and keep the wheel running true.

I hope that makes sense. I don't think I can explain it any better without drawing a diagram.

Have you got the right axle on your van? I've heard of axles being too narrow on some caravans before

I would also have a VERY careful look at the tyre especially if it's a HANKOOK...
I had a similar problem with the tyre rubbing a hole in a wheel arch, turned out to be the outer banding of the tyre had failed and when it got hot it swelled up to about 150% of it's diameter !! We looked at all sorts of possibilities before somebody from Fleetwood told us about the tyre problem - got them and the wheel arch boxes changed under warranty (when Fleetwood were still about)
