It's now getting very close to our 2 weeks in the New Forest with our New to us caravan...

For those of you who are not aware the caravan has been a "2-3 week project - month at the most" which we have been working on since we got the van in December :dunno:

No where near finished yet but we do have a van we can live in at the moment (just about)

Anyway the latest dilemma is centered on the tyres... should we get new ones or will the old ones do for this trip?

Any advice welcomed just posted the pics of 3 of the wheels below...

They look about ready to burst, just stood still.

Don't travel even an inch without fitting new one's!

All I can say is - wow. :fear:

Is it April 1st? The fine for an illegal tyre is £2500 plus 3 points per tyre. Don't even consider one of these as a spare!!!

Oh, and out of interest, have you had the brakes looked at? If this is the state of the tyres I would certainly have the brakes serviced if you don't know when they were last looked at.
Cheers,

Ritchie.

Quite apart from the fact that this is a joke ...........it IS a joke .......please...................................:sweatdrop:

Approval marks are 'e' or 'E' numbers which do not seem to appear in the photos.

In any event, the approval country is not necessarily the country of manufacture. I have tyres made in China with E4 (Netherlands) approval code, mirrors made in Italy with E4 codes.

One tyre is marked with a leaf and snowflake symbol indicating it is a winter tyre approved for use in Germany under winter conditions..

True approval marks do not donate the country of manufacture but they will donate the intended market.
The Japanese JIS aproval mark is the circle with the squiggle through it to the left of the tyre size for the uninformed and is accepted as the equivalent of a E mark for vehicles imported, and tested by the DVLA.

As I understand it, the E mark is for Europe, not just the UK and products sold in the UK can carry the E or British Safety (Kitemark) stamps.

Ritchie.

I'd like to thank you all for your replies...

Was wondering if I'd should ask if they'd be alright with Tyrons :sneaky: :sneaky:

But maybe I'd be pushing some of you a little too far

As for what they are on... check my outfit :;):

As for how old they are... I'll check on Saturday when they get changed - I'm wondering if they are original!!!

And yes the running gear including the brakes will be checked :2thumbsup:

Not all original as it appears at least one is different to the other two and it is doubtful a continental van would have Japaneses tyres fitted as OE although it could be Japaneses approval for Chinese tyre!

Check the gas lines under the van as they may be steel pipe.
