Anyone know if Tesco and or Sainsbury have closed their Calais stores yet?

I've seen a few internet reports saying Tesco's is due to close at the end of July, although there are some discussions with the trade union. Sainsburys closed last month. Odd Bins has also closed its Calais depot, although it seems to have been replaced by another company (Calais Wine).

Hope that helps.

Tesco was still open when we came back mid June. I was in one of their 'Express' stores today, and they were selling the wine that we bought for £10 a case, though they were charging £12 for 3 bottles

Tesco Vins Plus closing end of July 2010
Boulevard du Kent, Cité de l’Europe, Calais. 62901.

Tel: 0033 321 46 02 70. Fax: 0033 321 46 02 70. E-mail: tesco-vin-plus at wanadoo.fr

Open: 9.00am to 9.00pm, Monday to Saturday (Public Holidays)

July 2010 - Tesco will close at the end of July. However the staff are frequently on strike and they are not bringing in any more stock. The unions are angry as they claim that; the rent was substantially reduced in January, takings are up 10% this year, more people are returning with the improving exchange rate and the closure does not make economic sense. Tesco seems keen to close the store though, as staff have had their reduncy offer upped from three months to ten. The staff want the store to stay open, but negotiations are, according to La Voix du Nord (a local newspaper), not going well.

So.hard luck!

That's just information from the Daytripper site. There appears to be no date confirmed, officially, that I can find.

Monday will tell.

Phoned Tesco today three times but no reply. Phone Cite Europe who confirmed Tesco has closed.
