Trying to find a spare tyre for our caravan  ........ Not a chance.
brother in law has a vw golf tyre and is brand new
just for curiosity could we use this as a spare as it fits on the axel
but its a 175
ours is a 165
But as a last resort, till maybe we come across one.
thanks

The load rating will more then likely be inadequate for a caravan and the circumference will be bigger, its probably going to be the same as having no spare.

I suspect you are after a spare wheel & not just a tyre??? As a rule car tyres are not up to the job for caravan use & as yours is 5 berth I suspect the golf wheel/tyre is not suitable. you need to know the load & speed rating of your present tyres  I suggest you study these 2 websites before you decide, you will need the MTPLM (max allowable load) of your caravan & the tyre sizes.

Thanks Guys very helpfull.

The only other thing we can think of is we will have to buy 2 new wheels/tyres from towsure
but our local towsure are really not very helpfull,as mostly saturday helpers (young un's)
at least then we have 2 spares, lol
this caravan will soon have cost us more in replacing bits and bobs
as yesturday we checked all the water, and found the shower head has a crack all along it.
so this now needs replacing,
and the fridge wont light on gas.but works ok with electric,
but you like everything working dont you.
other than the odd bits, its exteria/interia is great for the year.

Im not up on wheels But I think each wheel is stamped with its diamensions If you can find these & post them on here Im sure someone will be able to help. Its not quite as simple as do the wheels fit the studs,The offset & rim width are important as well
as for your gas probs if you post this in the relevant section you will get some good advice

good luck TD

Have a look in the section headed ' Spares New & Second-hand'/'Caravan Breakers' under 'Workshop' this would be the best place to find a spare wheel, then go to a proper tyre depot and get the correct tyre - Don't be tempted to use the one on the s/h wheel unless it's less than 3 years old (week and year of Manf are marked on the side) see elsewhere on this site for tyre age details etc

You cannot use car tyres on a van - They will fit but are not strong enough.
A 1300kg van has 650kg on each wheel (approx)
A 1500kg car has 375kg on each wheel
You need specially re-inforced tyres.  Mine are made by "trailer max" and are 7 ply radials - I think.
A local independant tyre dealer orders them for me.
Not had a pitch yet where I couldn't access the internet one way or another

I've been on the lookout for tyres, found Camskill seem to be about the cheapest if you want mail order, follow this link for 13" 8 ply, or search for your required size http://www.camskill....id=m27b0s2345p0

Hope thats of some use.
