Hotel Bal at Tournehem-sur-la-Hem is close to Calais and is open all year and is listed in the winter sun carefree brochure as a stopover

Hi Niel and Lena
Thanks for that - have got it marked to ask about when I ring Camping club tomorrow - just got to find sites for the rest of the journey down to Spain!! Proving harder than I had anticipated!! Just wonder where all the people that go on these winter rallys stop off, or whether they all go down in motorhomes, and stay on the free aires, not available to caravanners.

Many thanks to you all for your adice about sites.
i wasn't aware that stopping overnight at services, with a caravan, was allowed. I had been told that only motor homes could do this. It would certainly be better for us to do this, as it doesn't mean deviating off the main routes, and the services are at regular intervals, so we wouldn't have to work out in advance exactly how far to travel each day, and spread the overnight stops more evenly.
Are the services the same as the Aires that I have read about?? As I know there are problems using the Aires, and the main clubs don't recommend stopping at them.
Thanks
Margaret

Thanks for your advice. Hopefully got most of the sites sorted now, just waiting for confirmation about one of the rallys we want to go to in Benidorm. Even got the dogs Vet appointment sorted!!

We paid €60 at the one near La Bien Assise so we'll be looking somewhere else in future!

It was the camp du drap d'or. We've used them before but usually take our own flea and worm treatment. This time I forgot which is why it cost so much but I know there are other cheaper places.

I went to :- www.dogsaway.co.uk
They will organise Vets Appointment for you and give you a plan of where to find the Vet.  Very helpful website. They cannot make our appointment until November, but said because we contacted them early enough we will be able to get the appointment time we want. All the info is on their site. They charge you £35 for all the arrangements, but certainlyt better than having to try and make appointment ourselves and find a vet too. You just tell them where you will be needing the Vet and they find it and book it all up for you

Hi maragret we used dogsaway one of the first times we took the dog after that we found it easy enough to book the vets on our own there is a very good vets in calais and the £35 goes a long way to pay for the treatment

I use the French yellow pages http://www.pagesjaunes.fr/ you just need to put the location in "ou" and veterinaire in the "quoi" box
