This is a good site.An added bonus for dog owners is that the site owners wife works for the local vet,

http://www.campinglachaumiere.com/

That looks like a very good site. I'll be giving it  try.

For those interested in booking ahead both Gandspette and Bien Assise can be booked via the Caravan Club if you are a member. At least that way you avoid any booking charges.

David

If you use the CC or C&CC to just book these sites, nothing else, then alas, you will incur booking charges.

Sorry, you are right, perhaps I should have added that if you have Red Pennant, or booked a crossing,  there will be no charge for booking but if its just sites there will be. I only have RP and booked two sites in Italy via the CC which saved me £50 but that was more to do with Sterling rather than the Club being cheaper.

Andrew

I assume you have stayed there? I was keen to give it a try  buy read some pretty poor reviews so, thus far, have not tried it. I accept one mans meat etc but more info would be useful.

David

Hi David

We have stayed only once as an overnight. Its quite a nice little site with clean facilities and welcoming owners.

We will stay there on the way home this year.

Andrew

You can also book Gandspette with your camping cheque gold card for no fee. I emailed them from Saumur last week because of difficulties we had with both Bien Assise and Gandspette last year

When I e-mailed them last year a couple of days before we were due to arrive I got the reply that they had no electric pitches available so had to go to Bien Assise and even that was a bit touch and go. This year however we just turned up and there will still pitches free at the end of both days. It could be that we arrived at the beginning of the week rather than mid week which might have made a differance as the people with dogs were staying 3/4 days. I think if I was getting an afternoon ferry/tunnel crossing I would be inclined to book ahead as the last thing you want on your first day is wandering around Northern France looking for a campsite with space!

I also have Red Pennant only and I booked 10 nights in Italy at two campsites without any extra charges. However when I look at the T&C's it states that a £25 service fee is made if you don't book the crossing via the CC. Now this is a bit strange as two years running I have booked sites without a crossing and not been charged the service fee. Perhaps I should just shut up!!!

we renewed our red pennant last week.
They refunded the £25 fee that we payed when booking sites only back in January.

Give them a ring Bob to get your refund

Gandspette was busy but certainly not full. I was talking to the owner at Isle d'Offard who told me the English were just not coming this year. The third toilet block was not open as they had found it was uneconomic to have the additional staff to clean it. As we were down that end because it was quieter he did come down and turn the water on so we could use the external tap on the block! The boat was half empty both ways & I expected it to be jammed at £70 quid a go!
