Hi All
I seen some thing on here about window Numbers and what they mean
they all started with SGTA then some numbers followd, its for the CRIS I think
now when I got this caravan I was told it was Cris Reg, but the numbers on my window are nothing like the SGTA
My numbers on my window is , 5GB 506HBYN,then under that is 0000019.
Do any 1 know what this means pls , I would be reall thankful if any 1 could tell me what these words and numbers mean.

The Caravan Registration and Identification Scheme (CRiS) is the national register of touring caravans, which was established in 1992 by the National Caravan Council in conjunction with HPI. CRiS helps prevent and detect crime and acts as a security check for dealers and private caravan buyers.

All caravans manufactured since 1992 by NCC members are recorded on the CRiS database by their unique 17 digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). This VIN and the caravan description are recorded on a Touring Caravan Registration Document, which is sent to the caravan's registered keeper.

Look for the CRiS number etched into the windows of the caravan
It will also be stamped somewhere on the chassis.
These are also on the CRiS document.

Once you have the number, you can telephone HPI for an HPI check, just like you do when buying a secondhand car. For a small fee, they will check that the caravan make and model matches the details on their register. They will also check to see if it is reported stolen, and whether there is any outstanding monies owed on the van, by the existing owner.

CRiS Numbers Decoded
You can also use the CRiS number to check some details on the caravan yourself. To help explain what the CRiS number means, take for example the number below:

SGAT000AV50001234

SGAT000AV50001234 Year of manufacture (5 = 2005) - see below for codes
SGAT000AV50001234 == Serial number

Year of manufacture codes:

N = 1992 -- 1 = 2001
P = 1993 -- 2 = 2002
R = 1994 -- 3 = 2003
S = 1995 -- 4 = 2004
T = 1996 -- 5 = 2005
V = 1997 -- 6 = 2006
W = 1998-- 7 = 2007
X = 1999 -- 8 = 2008
Y = 2000 -- 9 = 2009

For example the above number would interpret this way
SG AT000AV50001234 SG = Manufactured in UK
SG A T000AV50001234 A = Make of caravan is Avondale
SG A T 000AV50001234 T = Number of axles (S=Single, T=Twin)
SGAT 000 AV50001234 = Optional manufacturer's data (eg caravan model?)
SGAT000 AV 50001234 = Manufactured by AVondale
SGAT000AV 5 0001234= Year of manufacture (5 = 2005 - see list above)
SGAT000AV5 000 1234 = Optional manufacturer's data (eg batch number?)
SGAT000AV5000 1234 = Caravan serial number

I don't know if this explains enough -- but basically the window number should be the same as on the chassis and on the plate near the door of the caravan..
There was a problem with some early Baileys - not falling in with the system -- but I think it has been sorted now..

Hope it helps

If "5GB 506HBYN 0000019" has been mis-read and should be "SGB S06HBYN 0000019" then it's a valid CRIS number for:-

SG = built in UK
B = Bailey
S = Single axle
06H = model code
BY = Bailey
N = built in 1992 model year, ie 1st September 1991 to 30th August 1992
000 = Batch Number
0019 = serial number

The caravan may be a year older than you have been led to believe.

That seems the most logical -- as Bailey had "conformed " by then to the system..

I realise the rest of this thread is 2008 and therfore nearly 3 yeras out of date but ......... with regard to CRiS numbers denoting age - did the 17 digit CRiS number become an 18 digit no in 2010 to accomodate the 10?:undecided:

No, VIN numbers don't increase in length for cars or caravans - it'll still be the 10th character and probably reverts to "0" for 2010 model year, ie 1st Sept 2009 to 31st Aug 2010.

It can also be a letter for the year

VIN decoder here I don't know if it works on caravans and my 2011 car comes up as 1986 :sweatdrop:
