We are staying for a few days at a delightful site in the east of Holland."de brinkhoeve" in Noord Sleen near Emmen and not far from the German border (www.debrinkhoeve.nl) English spoken!
It was recommended by a member who lives in Holland(Mike-real name Keith) It is small site-about 30 vans-but has immaculate facilities-showers, toilets etc with electric hook up and free wi-fi !! The owners are very welcoming and would like to see more English visitors. The site is part of a group of sites all around Holland-and in other countries known as "Kamperen op het platteland" Ve Ka Bo Holland.
The owner of de brinkhoeve is also the President of the camping organisation and will give me a number of free 2007 guide books to all the sites when we leave. If anyone would like one of these then I can send it to you free of charge in order to promote visits to Holland. There is much more here than just tulips, clogs and windmills and the people are so friendly , welcoming and most speak English. I am afraid that Dutch has defeated us although we have been to Holland many times. Cheers David.

Very pleased you took up my recommendation Dave, and happy to hear you are enjoying this, the better part of Holland. Have you been out biking? Have you tried Dutch pancakes? If not, hop on your bikes, take the fietspad (bike path) north to Aalden, only 6 or 7 km. Once in the village take a ride through the old roads on the right side of the main road and search for the restaurant ?t Hoes van Hol-An,. It?s in an old Saxon farm and they do a fabulous selection of pancakes. Dutch pancakes can be either sweet or savory, the savory make a delicious lunch.
You'll be pleased to hear no change is expected in the weather for this weekend.
That small campings organization, Vekabo, have a website, http://www.vekabo.nl/, but it has no English version. See if you can convince the owner of the campsite, Riekus, (President of Vekabo) to get an English text done, it will help attract more visitors from the UK.

Thanks for your reply. Yes we have been out on our Dutch bikes to Emmen and Orvelte. We may go in search of the pancake restaurant tomorrow. We are moving on to Rijnsburg on Saturday for our second week in Holland. Cheers Dave.

Hello Keith. Thanks to your recommendation we have just come back from lunch at the pancake restaurant in Aalden. What a fabulous old farmhouse and equally good pancakes! They are really filling and a meal in themselves. The staff were so friendly and spoke perfect English. They even had a menu in English. On a different subject,I believe that Vekabo are working on an English version of their web site which is due out a bit later in the year.Best wishes Dave.

Thanks Dave for taking the troulbe to talk about the vekabo website. I'm sure an English version will bring a lot of visitors from the UK to some really lovely small campsites in the best parts of Holland. Glad you found and enjoyed the pancakes.
