definitely worth waiting ..... as ,almost always they have discounts and will try to price match/undercut most prices /dealers etc plus they do tend to do.......Dealers Specials

It can't hurt to ask for discount/best price etc

I'm on the lookout for a new awning too ( mine is 'all in one piece' - no opening side zips or windows, felt like a tomato in a greenhouse last year in france, no ventilation at all!)
Don't want anything fancy, as long as it does the job of containing loads of kids things and my coolbox for my tinnies! But i do want some form of zip down sides and/or a rolly- up- window-plastic- thingy. And fairly easy for me and sprouts to put up.
Any recommendations??
I am also going to nec, where i planned to look for a deal, but if i could do a little 'leg work' first to get to know what i'm bartering for....... would appreciate your views

I'd recommend eBay or any on line camping forum, if you look at how many times most people use their full awning you can save a packet. I bought my latest Isabella off this very forum (thanks Mick and Linda) and saved about ?800 on a new one. I'll use it maybe 6 times a year and with the left over money I bougt sat nav and a fiamma canopy for weekends !!
Never look down at anyone, unless you are helping them up.

Barney.
I purchased an Isabella Commodore Alpha last week and the best deal on the internet was www.waudbys.co.uk .

Very good service and delivery.

I've just (within the last fortnight) purchased a Sunncamp Cardinal awning.

Size 13 (960cm), openings at the front and sides, aluminium poles, ?300.00, brand new.

I know it's not the best money can buy but for ?300.00 I think it's quite a good deal. Worth considering if you don't want to spend a lot of money.

Beware buying awnings on EBay. I bought one claiming to be a 975cm model and it turned out to be a 950, so I sold it again (?25 profit!). Bought another claiming to be a 975cm model and it was 875cm!!!!! Sold it on and made ?10 profit (the profit covered the fuel going to fetch them in the first place!!!).

Eventually bought a new NR awning. Excellent value for money but the zips aren't the highest quality, but rubbing them with candle wax improved things.

We bought at the show last year and show prices were definatly the lowest. Also got the issabella "carpet" and verhanda pole thrown in and free delivery.

Alos look out for the Issabella storm straps at ?10 each and the pole tensioner which is invaluble and I think also ?10.

I have been looking at these porch type awnings that go up in a jiffy, similar to the dome tents. Anyone had any experience with them?

Hi,

Yes - we bought a Herzog Explorer "Touring" for our Eriba Triton, actually a group of us bought the same awning and did a bulk purchase deal with the UK importer.

The Herzog Explorer is a 3m by 2.M dome tent, total weight about 15kg - less now that we have removed the unnecessary motorcaravan bits - like the zip in fourth wall that closes off the dome when you drive the motorcaravan away - and the heavy metal pole that drops in the motorhome rain gutter.

An alternative to the German Herzog would be the Khyam Motordome, they both have the same "click joints" for the poles so the whole thing erects in under 5 minutes. All the poles are captive in the fabric - it's rather like putting up a very big umbrella.

I've uploaded 4 pictures showing the erection sequence in the photo gallery - you'll need to search for "Eriba Pop-Tops" or jump to about page 14 of the gallery

Thank you for the awning advice. I've been surfing the net for the past few days and have decided to take all my research with me to the NEC to compare prices/deals etc. (so if you see a bemused woman walking around with a carrier bag full of papers - that'll be me!!) stars.gif

I bought an Oggie Scienic porch awning last year.
Putting it up is a sinch, i can put it up on my own (which the kids are well happy about!)
As for space - just enough to put your bin (which means your head doesn't get wet when you open the door and fling rubbish in the bin!), washing up box and a drying rail for coats or storage for table/chairs.

The Oggie Scienic plus appears to have more space, apparently space for sitting at the table in it.

In hindsight, i would have gone for the 'plus' model, (not much difference in the price, both are light weight and pack up into a neat bag) but the store didn't have the larger one in stock at the time and i was in urgent need.

Looks like a good price to me but be careful about one thing. On the specification sheet at the bottom of the page it states that it is a 950 not a 975.

Worth confirming which one it is if you are buying one!

As I decided when I bought my awning for ?300.00, I'm sure they are not the best but for the money, good enough!
