I have TMC integrated with my Sat Nav and its absolutely wonderful. I can see where the trouble spots are before I set off on a journey and it'll warn me of potential problems as they arise en route such as length of traffic queues etc etc.
Being integrated with the sat nav means it offers you the option of an alternative route.
A project I'm currently working on means a 180 mile round trip 3 or 4 days a week so I've found it invaluable.
Its now being installed in an increasing number of sat nav systems.
I came across this website which tells you lots more.

Hi,
Am I right in assuming that TMC is built-in to the GPS receiver circuits? Destinator PN has a buttom for TMS but it is inactive as the chipset in my GPS doesn't have that facility - Is it worth having? Is their any subscription cost?
Thanks

Is TMC carried in radio channels ? As the only one doing it on my system is Classic FM ?
My TMC set up will only recognise Classic FM, and since I never listen to it, I dont know how TMC works or what it does !

Guys
If you follow the link in my original post, you'll find answers!
To summarise though, TMC is carried as a data signal either via TrafficMaster or Classic FM. Both variations of the system work off a common database.
For those systems (like mine) linked to the Classic FM data signal, you don't have to be listening to Classic FM to pick it up (you just have to be in an an area where you can receive the station) because the signal is picked up by the Sat Nav system and NOT your car radio. When it talks to my Sat Nav system I can bring up a screen showing all the potential delays in my locality or around the UK if necessary. The clever thing though is that once you've programmed your route in, it knows what delays you might encounter and as you approach the delay, it tells you what the problem is up ahead and offers to route you around it.
And it works!
