After many years of dreaming I have now bought my first Motorhome, OK not new but an 18 year old Auto Sleeper Harmony on a Talbot Chassis. I purchased it a week ago, have you noticed the deteriation in the weather, yep sorry my fault. I have joined The Camping and Caravaning Club hoping for some help but not much there. We have taken it out and cooked snacks in it and tried it out. The Carver Water Heater does not work this I knew and I am looking into a replacement any advice appreciated. The Electrolux Fridge does not appear to work but maybe I didn't leave it on long enough around an hour.

My main question is my wife and I are going to take it locally first but when I arrive at a site what do I do? Etiquete, procedure etc.

Any advice comments welcome

Hi I have always had a static but now I am mobile!!

With the static I was also forced by the park owners into having a gas bottle storage unit for my Calor gas bottles. Do I need similar if I'm mobile (smaller one through??)

oh the gas bottle storage unit is one of these - too big to carry

If I do not need it would anyone like to buy??? £100

Thanks all!

Towing help needed

Hi all i have been camping in tents for many years and now with to little kids about want to start out with a caravan the only problem is i have the new type license cat B only and ive started to get confused on what and if i can tow a caravan tryed phoning up the local traffic police and they as good as told me they dont no as long as the caravan dont look to big for the car they have no problem then i phone the met police and they say i can only tow a very small trailer but no caravan i have seen on the dvla website the ways i can tow a caravan and have sort of worked out i can tow a caravan but what i wanted to ask on here ( if you dont mind ) is an idea of a weight and size or both a car and caravan i could get on my cat B licence i want to get as big caravan as i can to sleep 4 people so what sort of weight caravan am i aiming for ? and what size ( weight ) car will i need to handle pulling the caravan and to stay within the combine weight so i stay legal. I will be ( if we get on with our first caravan ) taking the test so i will have the cat BE license. The car i will get will be just for towing the caravan so any idea on what car and caravan would do for a first timer with a cat B license would be great .

I am sorry for the long post im just confused and would love some help if you could

first outing and any hints?

Hello All

Suise Squash, La boheme folding caravan has had her mini makeover finished.

Hubby & I have just booked our first outing to Martin Mere next weekend, we have chose a hard standing electric pitch plus awning

Does anyone have any handy hints on erecting the awning please as it looks a fairly daunting prospect
We did consider testing it at home but there is a distinct lack of space

Also is a wheel clamp the best form of security device or would there be anything else on the market

Thanks in advance

Newbie

Hi there just thought i'd pop in and say hello. After a year or so of trailer tenting decided to take the plunge and buy a caravan. It a 94 Elddis shamal which appears to have had careful owners plus my hubby loves a challenge. We bought a second hand starter pack and managed to get a resonable porch awing (should be a breeze after the tt.) So we are set to go...............
This looks like a lovely helpful forum

I went away on my own. hubby was off shore so i persuaded father in law to help me hitch up and go with me to sort out the awning. We got most of it up when a lovely uy helped us with the rest. there was a couple who just sat and stared and didnt offer any sort of help but hey ho we managed.
driving the caravan was fine and i totally recommend it to anyone who hasnt taken ver the driving yet.
on site was fine with the services et, kids had a ball and i managed to relax. With the help of our friends who were also on site i managed to hitch up with them but when i got home i managed to reverse park on our drive and unhitch on my own.
well chuffed
thought i'd share my success
