Set on the edge of Luce Bay, this is one of my favourite sites.
There's 2 toilet/shower/dishwashing blocks up to the usual CC standards plus a small play area and games room but the jewel of the site is it's setting and the beach. It feels as if you could be at the end of the world yet you're only 20 minutes drive from Stranraer which is a nice little town with plenty shops, pubs etc. and an indoor swimming pool.
The site is split in to several different pitching area by bushes, gorse etc. Some of them are hidden from view as you drive through the site, so you could almost be pitched in one of the smaller clearings and nobody even know you were there. Quite a few pitches in different areas have sea views - I was on pitch number 6 the last time I was there and had a lovely view across Luce Bay and, at night, you could see the lights of Port William. On a clear day you can see the northern edge of the Isle of Man from some pitches and from thebeach which has direct access from the site and is excellent for children and dogs alike.
I've found mobile phone reception poor (if you even manage to get a signal at all) and I can't remember but I think TV reception was poor as well as I used my aerial on a ole instead of the status aerial. A neighbour used satellite OK.
There are some lovely villages and beaches in the area. The nearby Drumore is the most southernly point in Scotland. Portpatrick is a lovely place about 20 - 30 minutes drive from the site. It has a pretty harbour but no real beach. Port Logan is only about 3 miles from the site and is where they filmed 2000 Acres of Sky. It's really quaint and has a gorgeous beach as has Sandhead. I take the dogs to both those beaches as well as the one on site and have found that, if the tide is in at Sandhead, which is on the Luce Bay side of the peninsula, then it's usually out at Port Logan which is on the Irish Sea side.
There are lots of nice places to eat out in the area - The Crown at Portpatrick http://www.crownportpatrick.com/ and the Tign na Mara at Sandhead http://www.tighnamarahotel.co.uk/ are 2 of my favourites.
All around is such a lovely unspoilt area that anyone who hasn't visited doesn't know what they're missing.

Dot how did you manage to get pictures on to your post? I tried to put one on about Oban and it told me I needed a URL but I haven't hosted the pics on a website or anything so how did you do it?
Hi Anne Marie,
You need to get a free account with a site like Photobucket and you upload your pictures to there and then you can link to them there.
